HELP oil pump failing
hello again honda comrads,,im having problem with my honda accord 1997 ex,,,the oil pressure light is on from time to time,,it desapears when i rev the engine higher but somtimes it re apears at 3000 rpm for a second then it goes away,,
am i experaincing a failing oil pump if so,,then im in a jam i realy cant afford to fix it right now and the semseter has just began and i need it to work properly,,god daaame,,,
but,,,i think that this whole thing started to appears when i added an oil condtioner,,some honey looking sulotion to the engine,,,it is possible that i made the engine oil too thick for the pump to squeez ?
im too scared to drive the car any further as i might further damage the engine,,,but no sign of engine self desruct (no overheat...no jerky sound,,,)
any tips is hightly apprecaited,,,and thanks again,.,,

If there are no associated engine noises (knocks, etc)....
You could have several conditions which could be the cause:
Oil sludge / coke (overheated oil) accumulating in the oil sump in the vicinity of the oil pickup OR
Oil Pan damage. Sometimes riding up over those parking lot curbs can be detrimental. You could have bent the pan up against the oil pick-up, restricting the flow.
If that oil aditive had a strong detergent package, it could have started breaking up any sludge present and it started accumulating in the sump.
I would start looking there.
P
P_adams is correct when it comes to sludge or a damaged oil pan, but in my experience its always the simple things that generally cause the problems. If you dont see any obvious damage under the car, then I might suspect the oil pressure switch itself. They dont cost much to replace (neither are they hard to replace), and at least you could rule out the switch and wiring first before proceeding to any deeper and more expensive repairs. However, it couldnt hurt to try changing your oil and filter, just in case there was some sludge built up in there causing a reduction in available oil pressure.
i just discoverd that when i pulled theoil dipstick the oil level is at minimum,,,last time i changed the oil was three mounths ago..
is this related tooilpressure signal ?
oil leak problem ?
its too dark right now to see if there is anyleak were the pressure switch is

I'd suggest refilling it, inspect for leaks and watch that lamp like a hawk. I still suspect you may have an issue.
A low oil level will normally turn the lamp on during cornering and G maneuvers which would slosh the oil and uncover the pickup. Reving the engine normally didn't make a difference.
my deepest fear is that im actauly burning oil..( bad valve guides or worst,,bad pistone rings) maybe gaskgates who knows i need to check the engines further more,,,

problem solved...
i went to the mechanic today,,i actauly got it toed ,,,i was scared i might do somthing if i use it to get to the mechanic,,,
anyway he checked the oil level (dipstic) and said :
mechanic : were is the oil ?...funny...
then he opened the oil pan screw,,,and there was NO oil coming out...
mechanic : tesk tesk tesk....
me : pretending that i was looking at somthing else
so he added 4 liter oil container OF PP emarats oil (local made engine oil) w40 alonge with honda orginal oil filter ...
cranked it up and the rpm went back to 1000 rpm idle,,,,hmmmmmm
and most of all the oil signal is gone,,and stopped to appear again,,,thank god,,
thanks to all who have helped me in this one,,realy apprecaited it,,

If you need a proceedure for freeing up stuck oil control rings, get back to me.

i have taken a look under the car,,after lefting it up at the mechanic,,,
mechanic geussing i have sealents issues here
the light did indeed go away,,,but it seems that i have oil pan seal leak , cranshaft seal or oil pump seal,,, all in the same side,,its realy hard to tell wich is leaking so bad,,
the mechanic recommended that i pull the engine out and have the engine checked properly for ease of access and replacments of parts,,
i might go on and replace the whole seals at once on that side...i mean if i fix one another might break and then pay more the have the engine pulled out
its realy messy there,,,,
but no overheat or noises so hopfuly replacing the sealents will fix it
wish me luck,,,,
thanks ADAMs p

Pull the timing belt off. The most common leaks on those cars are front crank seal, balance shaft seal, cam seals, and oil pan gasket. Any experienced mechanic can change all this out for you in about two hours (but you'll still get charged 3-5hrs. labor).
