I was wondering why my 89 civic hatch why is it that everytime i get on it around 5,000 rpms my hids go off and flicker more and more when they turn on? can it be a bad alternator? or is it wiring? HELP!!!

do any of your interior lights spazz out as well when the hids act up? is it one hid or both of them that is flickering. if the connection is loose where the stock harness plugs into the hid harness sometimes you will get flickering or the light will start to come on for a sec but then turn off completely.

 

nope everything is good when that happens no interior lights go off....but i do hear a loud whineing sound when i floor it....im thinking voltage regulator in alternator? thats what im leaning toward is that possible?

okay i just tested my alternator....and above 5,000 rpms its putting out 18.7 volts lol so im assuming thats it...

 

that would do it. your internal voltage regulator in the alt is tizzoast. the hid's might have a safety feature in case they detect an over-voltage and this caused them to shut off. or maybe they don't, and you've just been really pissin your hid ignitor/ballasts off lol.
