Type R Crank pulley? Any Good?
the type r crank pulley with no ac or power steering is only 1.8lbs compared to the stock 10lbs. i know they use them on race cars but will it hurt the longevity of the oil pump or anything else on a daily driver? i was thinking of getting one for the del sol since i removed both the ac and power steering a long time ago.
can you feel a difference in performance if used?

The CTR N1 crank pulley does not have a harmonic dampener. With out a harmonic dampener it could cause damage to the engine. One with a harmonic dampener would be a better choice. For example like Fluidampr or ATI.
honestly people go back and forth about whether this pulley causes problems or not. others have had problems but they've been on "questionable" builds in the first place. atleast 2 i recall had oil pump failures. one was a ls-v, and another was boosted. so its hard to say for sure what was at fault. the ctr was designed for the b16b ek type r engine, which is obviously built with stronger parts and just overall going to be more reliable then say a standard ls. this is why some people say they are fine to run on the b18c and b18c5 type r engines because they were built better in the first place. if you do have a b18c type r engine, as your sig indicates, then there's no reason why you would have any trouble using the n1 pulley. i myself am using one on my b18b1, and have been for a couple thousand miles now with no trouble. *knocks on wood* lol. there have been many other people with ls's using this pulley and they too have been problem free.

Just take your current pulley and have a macine shop face the alt and power steering rings off. I did my own at work on the lathe. That way you have the harmonic dampening ring in there still. I dunno how ballanced it is after doing this but when my lower end was ballanced they didnt touch it and said it was fine.

This sounds like a good deal here. The guy will shave down the pulley, so someone like me could retain AC, but lose the power steering. I have experience using a lathe, I just don't know if I can keep a crank pulley perfectly balanced.

I was worried about it but when i got everything balanced they didnt even touch it. When i faced it i made sure it was perfectly straight with a dial indicator. King Motorsports here offers this service to people but i dont know how much they charge.
