Default 88-89 si cluster in an 89 dx

Just got my si cluster and i'm tryin to get all the wires plugged in however I cannot seem to find the blue tach wire. I assumed that it would be the same wiring and the wire would just be chillin behind my cluster but i'm not seeing it.

Any help?

Thanks in advance.

Little update:

I plugged in all the wires I could and the tach and speedo works.

But when I turn my left blinker on, instead of lighting up the blinker light, the tach needle moves up and down.

On top of that, I'm not sure if the fuel gauge or temperature gauge work.

Also my CEL and oil light are on, when they weren't before.

Any help???

Um, I didn't see any cut wires.

When you put the si cluster in, did you plug anything into the blue slot on the back of the cluster?

i think the blue slot is for the auto lights is it not? is your car an auto or manual? is the cluster an auto or manual, the cluster you have is for sure a 88/89 version?

i'm wondering the same thing. its possible that you actually have a 90-91 cluster. take a look at this and figure out for sure which one you have.

I'm for sure it's an 88-89.

Here's the weirdest thing.

If my hatch light is in the on position, and I have my car off and the doors closed, it stays on even though it shouldn't and it never did before. Plus with the hatch light on, two warning lights in my cluster will stay on (dimly). When I turn it into the off position the lights turn off, however if I'm driving with it off the tach doesn't work.

I don't know if the cluster is just screwed up or what..

Thanks for your help guys, any advice?

hey dude it has GOT to be a wiring problem. i tested the cluster in a friends 88 hatch and it worked fine. as far as it goes i had a brob with my cluster lights a while ago like if i put my blinker on then both blinker lights and my brights light would all blink and my temp guage with bounce up and down with the blinker lights.... and some other little **** like that and it ended up being a bad ground. i grounded the cluster directly the the frame and it fixed all that ****. did you find the page with the wire diagrams for the 88-89 compared to the 90-91? are you shure someone didnt rewire it for a 90-91 cluster already before you got the car or something?

im having the same problem right now trying to wire up my buddies civic cluster. so far we repined it and now when the lights are off and we turn on the left turn signal the high beam light goes on and off with the blinker. when the lights are on and we turn on the left turn signal the tack goes on and off and the high beam light also goes on and off with the blinker.if anyone has any info it would be greatly appreciated.

The tach is plug and play, Iv done it in my DX Hatch. Take the old cluster out, install the new cluster. Simple as that.

oh i see why it didn't work now. i forgot that on the 88-89's the civic and crx wires are in different spots. that being said your new cluster is clearly from a rex.

the autotransmission sensors are a green plug that goes near the top, you must connect the blue wire. I did lots of research only to find that its just plug and play. I believe if its form a 88 or 89 it can only work with a 88 to 89 si cluster without modification....)thought I read that somewhere....)

Thats right, to install the 90-91 Cluster into an 88-89 you will need the whole wiring harness back to the fuse box. Even then its still pretty much plug and play. Unplug the 90-91 harness, and plug it in where the 88-91 harness is. Then install the cluster. Done deal.

say what now? not really any of that made any sense at all. you don't need a whole wiring harness of any kind to swap clusters. if you're staying with an 88-91 cluster you basically move some wires around and thats about as intense as it gets. or if you are doing say a gsr cluster then you simply splice the old cluster wires into the new cluster plugs, and wire up an electronic vss. its not that difficult.
