Honda reliability?
joined the forum today, i recently got myself a 2009civicLX.
i been browsing around and glad to see some issues regarding these american civics that i should be paying attention to, while i break-in the [wife's car].
i owned a 91 hatchback SI long ago, but don't know what to expect with the new generation hondas. anyway i look forward to less trip back to the dealership about any warranty/ recall concerns.
i know it's not gonna last, but oh well i love the new car smell.

Youll be fine, Honda's here are usually made here but that doesnt really mean there american quality. Im sure Honda japan needs to approve these cars aswell since they are still japanese. Like toyota, you wont find anything better then honda reliability. congrats on the new car btw, enjoy
I've had my '06 Civic LX for 3 years now and the only problems I've had are a defective brake line at 48,000 miles (covered by Honda Care) and the CD player occasionally has a brain fart and won't play or eject the CD for a few minutes. Its a great car and very reliable. This is the third Civic I've owned, so I give Honda props for the great line of Civics they've built over the years.
thanks for all the replies so far.
yeah i'm glad i was able to convince my wife to look away from a corolla.
i may have paid more for a civic but i feel it's a wise decision.
i just wanted different experience, getting tired of the stealerships

true, toyota reliability is equal if not better than a honda.
but based on what i've seen on some 2003 models, these are customer cars that rolls into our shop.
1.) chrome plating on inside door handles flaking off.
2.) power window main control panel on driver side likes to get out of its mount.
3.) resale value seems lower than a honda for a similar year model.
otherwise i got nothing against toyota, honda just seems more appealing to me right now.

Ecotec is a piece of ****. Took me just five minutes in a G5 to realize that.
Powerless, inefficient(in displacement to power ratio), DBW that is abhorently slow
It is of my experience that a Civic will last longer than a Corolla, but a Camry will last longer than an Accord.

The newer Honda cars have a few more quirks than the older ones.
The K20A/K24A cars have retainer problems that result in dropped valves. It happens just as often on automatic cars as manuals, so it's not a force over rev problem. The 02-04 recall on the Type-S valvetrain accomplished nothing for those cars as they are still prone to drop valves. I haven't heard enough yet about the newer suffix -Z engines, but I hope that's been taken care of.
Most of the Civic line, among others, kill front struts in under 10K miles.
All CRVs gut their AC compressors. As in they explode, shrapnel is mostly contained inside the case but not always. The silly plastic valve in their silly plastic intake manifold is also junk, albeit cheaper to fix.
The K-series transmissions are weak. They aren't cheap FWD drag cars anymore. You can still field one hell of a turbo or NA auto-x or roadrace car on the stock gearboxes, but the days of a nasty drag car on a stock transmission are over. Other makes are worse - Subarus are a perfect example, and people still love those things.
+1
Nissan is a very poor company, has been for quite a while now. Die hard Nissan fans don't mention that Nissan's been skirting bankruptcy for over a decade now, and it shows in some of their designs. The new GTR is a perfect example of this, utter garbage, and doesn't deserve the name - Skylines died after the R34.
