Anybody have any experience with these? There is a possibility I could be selling the Accord, because I'm going back to school next semester, and don't want the $200 payments on a car I drive maybe 300 miles a month since I got laid off my job. So, I was thinking about doing two things. Either buying a swap for my EJ8(something like an H22 or boosted b series) and then buying a beater to DD, or just keeping the Civic as a delivery **** and buying a toy/DD such as the GTP.
Are these cars pieces of ****? From what I've seen from perusing FS ads on Autotrader, they seem to have this, that and the other thing replaced recently, even on the lower mileage cars from 99-00. Also my friend had a 99 Buick with lower miles that he received from his grandparents, and it was a POS. The IM gasket went on it and the tranny was starting to go when he sold it. Would I be better off sticking with a Honda for a toy/DD?

The 3800 series motors that GM put into most of their cars are actually really good motors. They're honestly not that bad even with the supercharger either. The only problem you're going to run into is, the majority of people that own GTPs, from my experience, seem like immature douche bags and don't know how to take care of a forced induction engine.
Just like any other car, you're going to have problems with it if it wasn't taken care of. If you could find a GTP with fairly lower miles and one that seems like it was taken care of, you'd probably be pretty good to go, just make sure you don't pay too much for it. I've seen people around here trying to get high dollar for these cars when they're most certainly not worth what some people are asking.
But yes, I believe that the 3800s are good engines. They're strong, pretty reliable, and can handle a fairly mild supercharger.
BUT, I'm completely biased towards Honda, and I would always tell someone to buy a Honda, especially compared to a GM, unless it's a V8 of course.
Good luck on whatever decision you choose.

I wish the other W-bodies weren't such pigs. I hope the guy researching and developing a cheap M90 SC kit for my Accord comes through pretty soon; then I'll be in the 12s with a 50k mileage Accord with maybe 3k into it
