Default now for cruise control

i've got a long drive to and from work. 93 si, cruise control usually works. sometimes the light comes on and it wont hold speed. when it does work, the light comes on, but it then takes anywhere from 2-10 seconds to engage.
anyone know of a way to fix this? or do i just have to suck it up?

there is also a nut of the CC unit (the big cone looking thing that controls the vacuum.) I would make sure that it is adjusted properly

older cc seem to have a little lag when engaging, i think. i had a '97 del sol and it took a couple seconds for the cc to engage after setting it, and then it would have to catch up; it was kind of lame.

My cruise froze up this winter when it got warmer it worked again.
I am gonna put a moisture trap/catch can in so it might not freeze up net year.

What have you tried ? Did you check/fix any leaks ? Most people just remove the CruiseControl unit and lines all together to avoid problems / clean up engine bay. Your best bet would be to diagnose the problem using a Helms shop manual as your guide.
