Default flywheel installation

my friend at work has the following problem:

exedy stage 2 clutch and fidanza lightweight flywheel installed at shop, ever since the flywheel has been installed the starter makes a weird noise on startup and then goes away after a second or 2. he described it as a grindy type of noise which i know is kind of vague but I havent heard the noise so i cant say. they are saying everything is lined up right. replaced old started because it was sparking when they hit. starter replaced does not spark but still makes the noise on startup. its in a f22a1 if that matters

I have the exact same problem. Installed a Fidanza flywheel and an exedy stage 1 clutch and when I start it up, it makes a noise like scratching. Almost as it the starter gets caught up on the flywheel. Does anyone know what this could be?

mine was doing that untill i tightened the power spade plug to the starter. check to see if the starter power wire is a little loose.

I've been hearing this throughout the years. Its a hit or miss problem, alot of people experience it with JDM starters and transmissions, but I've not experienced it with either JDM or USDM starters/trannys. so its kinda a crap shoot. But you can swap starters and see if that works, trade someone or something. But its weird.

Search around here and you'll find threads about it. Here and on PP

I had this problem, to a much worse extent. My starter would get lodged in the flywheel teeth and wouldn't back off. I machined the edge of the starter and pulled it away from the flywheel while tightening the mounting bolts. Fixed it, never had any problems since.. doesn't even squeal anymore.
