You should do some research on engine timing.

PS. I hope your friend isn't expecting any performance increases, because there won't be any.

... that pretty much sums it up. Cam/Valve timing are all that the aftermarket Cam gear will handle. +/- refer to how advanced/retarded the timing is compared to the crankshaft.

Its to increase or decrease your timing by degrees, that is what the numbers are for+ and -...and to get them where they should be you would need to tune the car with most likely a dyno tune for the nest results. Or if you could even find sombody elses specs you mite be able to go off of theres if they had the same EXACT setup.

Oh man, you shouldn't have said that.

Be very, very careful with that timing gear. You're most likely going to mess up your motor playing with it.

it'll be really hard to get any power out of a cam gear on a sohc since both intake and exhaust lobes are on the same shaft.

I really dont think you should be doing a cam gear when you clearly have no idea what you are doing. If you set the timing 1 degree off..say goodbye to the engine!!!! goodluck ur going to need it...

You shouldn't set it at all, since it's a single-overhead cam and you clearly don't know what you're doing.

You can just "set it" at some degree and have it run right, you would have to have some kind of a basemap or return to run correct on depending on the degrees you set it at.
