Default K24/K20 Turbo Options

Hey guys

Did a search but couldn't find what I was after.

Am in the throws of piecing together a K24/K20 setup and approaching turbo choice time.

It is a stock bottom/head for the time being with a 50/50 chance of being built tough later on.

ATM I am choosing between a GT35R with .8 exhaust or T04Z with .8 exhaust....

It is a street car and my fear is that the T04Z will be a little laggier then I will want, but of course the 35R will not be big enough if I want to rebuild and really crank it up.

Would be interested to hear from anyone running this setup with either turbo, or turbos of very similar specs.

Cheers
Adam

HP or Kw goals to the wheels would really help narrow down some choices, as well as the turbine housing you want to use.

we opted for a gt4094r.

we originally went with the divided .85... and realized it was too small... we now run the 1.06 and it works great!...

Picked up over 100 whp by going from a .85 to a 1.06...

pics of it can be seen on

Thanks for the comments guys.

It will be a "pump gas" only car most likely.. Certainly initially anyways.

I think the 35/40R is probably my best bet if I can get around 600WHP....Going to need to run C16 to see that kind of power anyways.

My only thought is if I have to go up a size then it means a whole new manifold essentially which is not a desired outcome. Unless I swap from .8 to 1.06 which could be worth a bit of power according to Damien above.

Can anyone comment on the GT4088R as a viable option? GT4094R impossible to get here without paying crazy amounts.

Looks like the only difference between the 2 turbo is a 88mm compressor wheel or 94mm - both have the same turbine.

4088 is a great turbo. Are you running a twin scroll manifold?

Difference between the 4088 and 4094 is the 4094 uses a GT42 compressor that has been cut down and stuffed in a GT40 compressor housing. Not really a good match, but not terrible.

I have a burns collector which is a 4-1, not twin scroll, but dude building my manifold doesn't seem to think that is the end of the world......

there is a .8 and .9 (exhaust housing) in stock here with the garret distributor........ the .9 is about $400 cheaper (in our money) so thinking i'll go with that one.

On our K-Series car, which is just a straight K24a2, we're going to give the FP HTA GT3586R a try, seems like it would suit your goals for now well, and give you some room to grow.

Dont match a 4088 with a non twin scroll manifold, you will lose performance.
