Default Possible local deal? 1991 honda accord coupe 5 speed got questions

Guys. I found this in a local craigslist ad.
i have an 91 Honda Accord 5speed 184,000 miles just did a lot of work to the car, but the only thing the car need is a computer and you can pick one up out of the junk yard for $100 I already called and asked. willing to keep insurance on the car for the next 3 days after the sale of the car. I NEED THE CAR GONE BY THE END OF THE WEEK. price negotiable serious inquiries only

yes the ecu needs to be replaced i have got mew spark plugs, new spark plug wires new battery, all new clutch system everything but the actual peddle , all new gaskets and some other little small things

What should I be looking for if the ECU is actually bad? Isn't that pretty uncommon for an ecu to go bad? Considering this as a daily driver.

ECU's generally just dont go bad. And the ones that do go bad usually means there was another problem to begin with that led to the ECU burning out (such as a sensor failing, or wires crossing and shorting, ect.).

Sounds to me like that guy has got a dead car on his hands, and he needs to sell it quick and came up with a cover story saying it just needs an ECU. Chances are he knows whats really wrong with the car, and wants to sell it quickly to the first poor guy that buys it. On the other hand, I suppose if you go take a look at it, as long as the engine cranks over normally then it might be a good deal. As long as it cranks over but just doesnt start then it should be ok. The problem may be even simpler than an ECU for all you know, or it could be much worse- its a gamble.

If it was me, I would make sure it cranks over smoothly. If it does, and you can get a fair price out of him then I would say go for it.
