Name that Turbo! need lil help on Identifying
What I know... so far, Compressor Housing reads A/R .60, Exhaust Housing under the T3 flange reads .63. Back of Compressor Housing is stamped CCE50, which is a Precision stamping. All parts are new, builder of the turbo pieces new parts together, works on Garrett and Garrett a like quality turbos only. Uses same internals for all turbos he carries, same warantee.
Box came in reads...

I was told it was a 57 trim. However my main question is can a 54/57 trim internal fit in a 50 housing?


As the picture below shows as the funnel effect gets before the fins about an inch it opens up bigger... does this mean theres a bigger 54/57 internal in the 50 housing? Possible?

Doesn't look like a .50 trim, but the eyeball micrometer is about as good as the butt dyno sometimes.

The compressor housing/inlet, where it has been shave down where the fins of the wheel are 57.53mm it appears, micrometer, I took a feeler gauge to measure the distance between the wall and the fin on each side roughly 5 thousandths. Subtract 10 and you get 57.25mm which would be a close identication that the compressor is a 57 trim? No way my measurements would be off enough to net me a 54...
... hrmmm ok ... you have to take off the compressor housing and measure the inducer by exducer to get the trim

Trim is a common term used when talking about or describing turbochargers. For example, you may hear someone say "I have a GT2871R ' 56 Trim ' turbocharger. What is 'Trim?' Trim is a term to express the relationship between the inducer* and exducer* of both turbine and compressor wheels. More accurately, it is an area ratio.
* The inducer diameter is defined as the diameter where the air enters the wheel, whereas the exducer diameter is defined as the diameter where the air exits the wheel.
Based on aerodynamics and air entry paths, the inducer for a compressor wheel is the smaller diameter. For turbine wheels, the inducer it is the larger diameter (
Example #1: GT2871R turbocharger (Garrett part number 743347-2) has a compressor wheel with the below dimensions. What is the trim of the compressor wheel?
Inducer diameter = 53.1mm
Exducer diameter = 71.0mm
correct the inducer is what I did measure and it was 57.25 mm roughly... not the exducer...
is there a given # on the exducer if my inducer is 57.25mm? Obviously Precision/Garret internals.

Garrett & Precision use the same part for their smaller applications per their contract agreement. You're going to receive the same information as the others have already said.
the standard precision 50 trim has 2.123" ind and 3.000" exd
Now being that I have a 50 trim thats 2.260" ind and 3.230" exd bigger wheel, doesnt mean the turbo will have more top end as well? Flow more. Compared to a standard 50 trim? in theory wouldn't spool up as quick as the std precision 50 trim above, being a bigger wheel but it would flow more at top end looks to be as much as a 57-60 trim?

Not necessarily. At these levels of measurement, (which can easily be off by a couple of hundredths easily) you're splitting hairs here. You measured the wheel with housing off, correct?
Yes the above measurement is with the cover off with a mic, measuring wheel inducer and exducer, it is a bigger wheel over the std. 50 trim it appears more like to be like a super 60 type deal from what a local turbo guy here thinks, big wheel smaller housing 50 housing.
That's your call. Precision usually has numbers/letters on the backside of the compressor cover and on the compressor outlet that goes to the intercooler piping. check those places as well.
From your pictures it looks like a 50 trim, bottom line. GL. We found it, named it, done with it.

correct housings 50 trim wheel is a big wheel, like I mentioned it's closer to a super 60, guy who puts these together is a builder all new parts, all hot specs for decent builds,
