Default '96 Accord DX H22 Swap Project

Well, I had posted a week or so back about my lovely '96 Honda Accord DX getting fixed up, going 48 miles, and basically blowing up.

Everyone was a great help, and I'm so happy I found this forum! But after considering the mechanics offer of $2750 to replace the engine with one from a local junk yard and fix it up (F22B2)... And reading through these forums for a week (as well as the FAQ, other links, swap sites), I've decided to do an H22 swap.

I'm looking to get the engine from the guys at jdmsource.ca: http://www.jdmsource.ca/v2/product.asp?ID=69

The Accord is Automatic, and I'd like to keep it that way, so this kit has the H22 auto transmission, and comes with the ECU/TCU.

I have a guy who's done some civic B swaps doing this for me (I'm helping - but I'll likely relegate myself to taking notes and asking stupid questions like "Is that the engine?" when he puts in the ECU. Heh.) However, I've been tasked with getting all the parts together before we start. We have a shop to use but will only have it for the weekend, so I'm hoping to be able to drive out of it.

So I've gone through as many resources as I've been able to find here and about the Internet (http://importnut.net/h22a_swap.htm, http://www.attackforums.com/showthread.php?t=1197, http://www.superhonda.com/forum/f13/...posting-78633/, http://mr22.tistory.com/tag/tensioner, http://www.hondahookup.com/forums/ar...hp/t-2358.html, http://www.jdmlove.org/2009/01/h22-s...-90-93-accord/, etc.)

I believe almost everything in the engine set I'm ordering is included, but here's what I *believe* I need:
h22 compressor brackets (maybe with the engine?)
h22 sensors - map sensor and bracket (gotta check and see if jdmsource.ca will send these?)
h22 throttle bracket (prelude throttle bracket)
upper and lower prelude radiator hose
H22 Header (will this fit into my Accord exhaust?)

My swap guy recommended getting an Apexi VAFC vtec air fuel controller while we're at it. And I think I'm going to try to do the auto-to-manual timing belt tensioner change.

I'm concerned about the power steering line, since I read that's a problem that has to be spliced at a fitting shop, but I haven't found any real details on it. I'm not worried about keeping cruise control.

I hate to be such a noob, but if anyone has familiarity with a '96 Accord for an H22 swap, I'd greatly value your knowledge and commentary. From what I've read it sounds like it's easy, but then I come across a few things that look somewhat tricky. And, I'm concerned about missing parts or not having what I need.

Thanks so much! I'm looking forward to getting so in touch with my car during its rebirth. It's just going to be a daily driver, but that doesn't mean it can't be fun, right?

Oh yeah, I wrote jdmsource about their kit and their response was:
the picture on the site is not of the actual motor, it is just a stock photo to show customers what it looks like, you will be provided actual pictures of the motor that you will be recieving once an order is placed along with compression test results, the motor sets are OBD1 but this will still work in your 1996 Accord, you will need to purchase a conversion harness (approx $90) you do not need to get different axles as the ones you already have will work, as for mounts we provide you with them. the complete package including shipping to you i can do for $1520 shipped. please let me know if there is anything else that i can help you with.
So I asked for some pictures of recent engines they sent out and they looked surprisingly clean (as opposed to the ones I've seen sent from tiger japanese - which was a little cheaper) I also asked about broken parts, because I've read of bent oil pans and broken sensors, etc. I wasn't overly concerned about having to replace or fix a few parts, but their response seemed to imply they'd cover any problems from shipping:

The complete motor set indeed includes all the sensors, i will warranty the transmission aswell against any defects, as for shipping, your motor set will be insured for the full purchase value against any damages, but to be honest they are very careful and there has been about 2-3 small claims in the last 4 years. attached are some pics of random motors that were purchased last week! enjoy! also forgot to mention we do include the TCU along with the ECU, no other company provides this
But I'm updating this because I wanted to add an odb2 to odb1 conversion harness to my list of known items needed.

I would say search but it's a pile of **** right now and doesn't work. There's a post of mine - I believe it's recently been bumped with the exact parts you need for the power steering, save for a new bracket (98 + prelude) and belt (410 size) everything else is reused from the accord.

Thanks for the quick response! I had been going through the search and reading old posts, but I must have missed that.

I'll continue to research the JDM engine sellers, I had mostly found favorable reviews of jdmsource.ca online, but I'll check your recommendations - I'm likely 2 weeks from ordering the engine.

Apparently the one thing that's going to be difficult is to find a wiring harness for odb2a to odb1 that works with an automatic... Since I think my odb2 was onboard and the odb1 H22 is a separate TCU. Dang, like it or not I'm likely going to learn a lot about all this.

Thanks again!
