Default integra theft victims...need your help in dispute w towing Co.

long story short my 95 gsr was stolen stripped and burned.

now the towing company that picked it up is charging me about $250 in express towing fees(its a scam the local cops have w towing companys) and complicated pickup since the car was burned. from what i have seen before if you dont have the funds to pay up then they keep your car.

is there some kind of law saying i have to pay up, or can i just let it be and forget about it?

any help is appreciated, thanks

There's no way you can just pick up your car and not pay. The best thing to do is once they call you and notify you they found it and where your car is, is to call your own tow or contact the tow yard which has your car and arrange for pick up asap, as they will charge you!!!!

The amount they charge piles up ridiculously and since it's all jacked up especially in your situation burned... they try to just ask for your pink slip and take it off your hands for free.

Is the car still worth taking out and then what?

You would have to sell the car and release liability or pay. I would recommend you pay up as soon as possible before it goes to collections.

i havent seen it but acording to the sheriffs dept its "completley stripped and burned"

i talked to carlos and he was telling me about an old corolla that was registered to him and the guy had it impounded and they just left it there and no charges were brought up

not too sure what a title is gonna do for a stripped and burned up car....i ain't buying it, and i don't know anyone who would buy a stripped and burned up car. **** a phone call. i'd wait till i got papers. if its a scam, an you got your insurance money out of it, good. call it good and leave well enough alone.

I strongly suggest taking care of it... I thought the same thing-out of sight = out of mind, and it is just that until you get a 1,900 bill from a collection agency and are like WTF!!!

I sold a truck to someone once that was worth about 250 bux at the most, they got 30 day tags on the notorized title and never transfered the title.... needless to say it broke down, they ditched it, and it got towed where it sat for 2 months...

The most screwed up part is after a month(in ohio)they can crush or sell the car but instead they'll hold it as long as possible and rack up a HUGE bill!!!! Especially if the car isn't worth ****.

There are some scandalous ****'s in this world and ways they can F@$% u if u give em the chance, offer to sign the car over as scrap for the bill nicely if they don't accept, eat it and pay the 250 bux, if ya don't have it i'm sure they would set up a payment plan.

Call em up and work out a deal with you signing over the car to them. THey get premo prices on scrap metal since they bring in so much. Usually if the cars junk they will tkae the car off ur hands and drop the tow bill.

I got lucky my moms friend owned the tow palce that got my car. I ducked a $200 tow bill and got my car back but it is rediculous now they towed my car 1.5miles and charged $200 and after 5 days they started charging $20 dollars a day storage and I was in the hospital for two weeks $380 in storage plus $200 for the tow agian i got lucky and got out of it but still thats BS

These are standard rates. I've seen $30+/day for storage. If you don't want the car anymore, just work out a deal to give them the title. If you wait long enough, your title will be worth less than the storage bill.
Usually, they are happy to take your car and sell it to the local dismantler (or recycler in this case).
