Default V-tec pressure switch? Need?

Ok, i have ran my car at the quarter mile before and ran a 15.5, this past weekend me and my buddy went to the track and i usually stand on his bumper all the way he has a 5.0 mustang, well this weekend he took me by like 2 cars. and the best time i ran all night was a 17 flat.

this is a 92 civic dx with a 94 civic si d16z6 engine standard. well i broke my pressure switch connector the other day and my check engine light came on, so i pulled a v-tec pressure switch from a d16y8 OBD2 and i took off my pressure switch and replaced it with the 2000 civic ex's. i guess it was diffrent because it still has a check engine light.

ok, finnally the question, what the hell is the pressure switch for and without it does v-tec still kick in or no? and i the 2000 ex have a diffrent switch than mine?

Up until not too long ago I didn't know this either, but I have recently been told that the pressure switch basically tells the ECU that there is sufficient oil pressure in the system to activate vtec safely. If for instance you have a problem with your engine that results in low oil pressure, the ECU won't send the signal to activate vtec. This is absolutely a crucial part of having vtec work. You need to reset the code and see if it returns. If it comes back on, make sure your connections are good. Otherwise the two pressure switches may not be interchangeable (although I can't see why).
