vtec pressure switch???
hi everyone i got a 2000 civic si. my check engine light came on and i went to my mechanic. i dont no the code it self but its coming up as vtec pressure switch? can someone help me out. thanks alot
ok so far i changed my oil.
i replaced the pressure switch
i took off the silniod n checked the screen and it was clean.
that wire from the silnoid that plugs in was alil lose. my guy tirraped it n tapped and my vtec was kickinbutt for about 25 min redlining it. then washed my car then went for a rip home and it came back on. so basically im down to just buy a new silnoid.

Re: vtec pressure switch???
you're low on oil or have a wiring/switch issue.
when the oil pressure is over a certain amount a oil pressure switch closes this tells the ECU that it's ok to turn on the VTEC solinoid if it wants to.
If the pressure is not enough, or the switch/wiring prevents the ECU from seeing that line indicate enough pressure, and you're at an RPM where you should have ample pressure... you get a CEL.

Re: vtec pressure switch???
May be just unplug it, and plug it back in. That worked for me once. or
If the wires look good, replace the switch. May be remove the solenoid and check the filter in the $12.00 gasket.

Re: vtec pressure switch???
so basically i had an oil leak from the oil pressure senor. i was driving rippin on it racing a 3seris bmw. n the light came on i disconnected the battery n then the light was off but once i reved it high it came back on.
today i had the oil pressure senor replaced with a new one. so it dosent leak oil no more. i checked the dipsick and its above those to little holes.

Re: vtec pressure switch???
i added a quart of oil and still didnt really do nun. at first it will let me redline it but as i drive it more and the engine gets hotter it stops me at 6000 rpm. which i read somewhere if the vtec isnt working it goes into that limp mode so u cant blow ur engine.

Re: vtec pressure switch???
The oil pressure switch you replaced near the oil filter is only for the oil pressure light in the cluster. The VTEC solenoid has it's own oil pressure switch, for determining when to engage/disengage VTEC.

Re: vtec pressure switch???
Maybe your VTEC solenoid/VTEC oil pressure switch went bad.
You can get the solenoids all over Honda, but I believe you can get a new OEM oil switch from inlinefour.com
I think its the solenoid itself that's making your car run in limp mode. My friends VTEC pressure switch went out and it would red line, but VTEC wouldn't kick in. A new switch solved that problem.
If you have an EM1, I doubt its a wiring issure. Just replace the VTEC solenoid/pressure switch.

Re: vtec pressure switch???
Have you checked the exact CEL code numbers? The CEL will send code 22 for the VTEC pressure switch and then CEL 21 for the VTEC solenoid. So, if you check the codes it might tell you what part of your VTEC system is having a problem.
I just had this exact problem with my 1993 Del Sol Si...I replaced the VTEC pressure sender and the CEL went away.
Have you reset your ECU sense you replaced the VTEC pressure sending unit? If you don't reset the ECU between replacing the parts you will continue to get a CEL.

Re: vtec pressure switch???
Dude I HIGHLY doubt you have a wiring issue. As long as your wiring is untouched, you should be fine.
Replace the VTEC solenoid. There are tons of them in the marketplace.
