Choosing new suspension
Hey guys, I need help deciding this. The shocks on my Civic are completely blown, so I bought some Tein S.Techs and was just planning on just buying new OEM shocks. After I talked to some friends, they all told me I would blow the new shocks because of the lowering springs and told me I needed aftermarket shocks.
Now before I ask you guys on what shocks to buy let me give you a little information since no one on Honda-Tech does that anymore. First of all, I am a poor university student so good coilovers are not an option as the 250$ for the Tein's was hard to come by. I do not want anything for hard-core performance just a little better handling. The roads here in Alberta are always terrible so something on the less bumpy side would be ideal. How are the Skunk2 shocks? I've heard of a lot of brands like, Koni, Eibach, KSport, etc. etc., but which brand is right for me? Thanks for the input. Also- My price range is 300-400.

can u save a bit more for konis? but for 400 tokico illuminas is just fine. i rode in a dc2 with them pair with tein s tech and the ride is pretty good. u just have to play with the setting and find the right one for you. remember to get a alligment after your done.

I would highly recommend Tokico Illuminas if they fit in your budget.
Wait, are we talking US or Canadian $? You said you paid $250 for the S-tech springs, which is a pretty major ripoff if that's US$. But if that's CAD it's not as bad.
If your budget is CAD$300-$400, then you probably can't afford Illuminas. I would suggest saving up until you can, though. KYB AGX is another option.
Whatever you do, stay away from Tokico HP or KYB GR-2 shocks. Those should be considered OEM replacement only, and not suitable for anything but the MILDEST lowering spring, i.e. only 3/4" drop or so.

On the hardest setting you feel the road like you have sport suspension (real hard), and yet on the softest setting it's pretty close to stock shocks feel but with sence of stability. So whatever floats your boat, those shocks can do.
the adjustability is very important, because everyone has different taste.
two days ago I was rocking the hard setting, but after 1 hour of bumping myself I moved it to more soft position. Yet, stability was awesome and I'll switch again when needed.
overall, highly recommended (and I usually reserve myself from recommending stuff)
