Default white smoke under right side of hood

Hi everyone,

I drive an '05 EX-V6 Accord. Last week, I started smelling a burning rubber smell coming from the vents. I ignored it as I thought it was coming from another car as I was driving. So then a couple of days ago, I noticed after driving for about 45 mins, that there was some white smoke coming from the right side only under the hood. I am clueless when it comes to cars and so is my husband. The temp gauge is normal, and there are no dashboard lights coming on, so I am hoping this is just a minor problem, like a cracked hose or something like that. We opened the hood, and it looks to us that all the fluids are there, and can't see a leak, although I don't know what to even look for.

Going to take it into the dealership tomorrow, but you don't think it's a head gasket problem or anything major like that?? What could it be?

Thanks.

I can guarantee you that it's not a head gasket; J30/J32/J35 V6es almost never blow head gaskets, unlike their C32 V6 predecessors. A blown head gasket will rarely leak coolant externally, and you'd notice overheating and either disppearing coolant or oil and coolant mixing. Unlikely that it is a leaking water pump either, as you'd probably smell coolant and notice it on the floor.

Is the air conditioning working? Occasionally I've seen a compressor seize up and smoke the belt, but you'd definitely notice a lot of noise and the engine would feel as if it were struggling.

Could be something as simple as a plastic bag that got stuck to the exhaust and is burning away. Could also be a seized A/C idler pulley bearing. At this point, we can only speculate. I wouldn't go in fearing the worst though.

I'm not sure if the air conditioning is working or not, will try it though. I haven't used it since last summer, only been using defrost these days as we are in the midst of winter. Thanks for your reply, I scoured the internet today and read too much, so it got me worrying. I'm sure it's nothing major, hopefully just a belt or something like that. We've never had any problems with this vehicle and it's been properly maintained over the years, so I'll quit worrying now.
