The other day it had a hard time taking off from a start. It would go slow, then catch after 2 seconds and take off. It's auto. Then when it was supposed to shift into seconds I had to let off the gas and step on it again to put it in second.

Today it just stutters when it wants to shift. Letting off the gas and stomping it does not help. Just stays stuttering.

 

What year Civic?

Have you checked the ATF level?

Is the CEL ON?

 

97 dx, atf level is good, no cel.

 

You likely need a new transmission. You can probably buy one from someone on this forum for a good price as most here will swap out their AT for a MT.
