1991 Accord LX sedan
Check engine read "4" I have replaced the distributor and tried another ECU. Problem still persists. Now I think it must be a short, how do I fix this, do I disconnect the 8p connector then reattach? What would a bad wire look like and how to fix?

If you have to ask that question, you probably don't have much electrical experience nor the tools required to 'fix' it properly. But I'll try to answer your question.

A "bad" connection could be a:
Corroded Connector
Overheated Connector
Loose Connector

A "Bad" wire could be a:
Pinched wire (shorted circuit to ground)
Cut wire (open circuit)
Overheated wire (Burnt / wrinkled insulation)

Each condition requires a different proceedure and doesn't involve bubblegum or scotch tape.

Proper tools would require a:
Multimeter
Test light
Wire cutter
Crimping tool
Service manual
Soldering Iron
etc.

I have some of the tools and can get the rest. where do I start. I dont have the full code, just the blinking light. The wires dont look so good, dirty maybe the insulation is damaged. the hotter the car, the longer its been runing the worse it is, and after about 10min the check engine comes on. It runs better but has not proformance.
