will a type r rear lip for a 97 4dr fit on a 97 hatch. if it won't what mods will need to be done?

 

just to give you info, yeah 96-98 front and rear bumpers are pretty much the same, and well yeah 96-98 are all the same lol

 

pretty sure the rear bumpers on coupes and hatches are different.

 

Sedan = Coupe
Hatch = Hatch

As far as EK rear bumpers are concerned that is. 96-98 and 99-00 are separate though.

 

ok well here's the situation. i just got a lip kip for my car (97 sedan). however, i am considering a trade with a friend of mine who has a 97 hatch with a 2000 front end. my question is will the lip kit fit the hatch. if not, which parts and how can i modify them to fit?

nope

96-98 ALL front lips are interchangeable
99-00 ALL front lips are interchangeable

You could probably modify it to fit like you mentioned, but i'm not sure of the details.

SO how are they different? Because I'm gonna be pissed if the Lip is delivered and the **** dont fit.

 

idk what way they are different.

i just know all the 96-98 front bumpers are the same, and all the 99-00 bumpers are the same.
i'm willing to bet that the differences in the lips are very minor and you will probably not have to do much to get it to work.

The bumpers dont even really look different though

 

exactly i was looking at them side by side and they don't look any different except the fact that the 99-00 has fake brake ducts and a smaller center bottom grill thingy haha. other than that i can't see a difference.

 

add it also looks like the difference between a hatch rear bumper and 2/4dr rear is the distance from the very back of the bumper to the wheel well.

 

Exactly. Which is why I'm confused.

 

i mean the only thing that i think it could be is either how far something does/doesn't extend and mounting points. someone more experienced correct me if i'm wrong

 

But if you buy a lip.. it comes with screws to mount it.. there isn't really a "mounting point" I dont think

 

so would i just have to mount it in the best spot and then cut it to fit or what?

 

Thats what I'm guessing... I dont think you'll even need to cut it. I think, HOPE, that it will screw right up lol.

well i looked a the hatch and it had too much wrong with it. would have made a great project but i just don't have time for a project right now so i'm sticking with the 4 dr. the rear bumper looked like it would need to be cut but the front looked the same

 

ya I could see the rear bumpers maybe being a BIT different.. but the fronts? Same damn thing.


Thats ok though; 4doors can be clean as hell to man

 

once i get all the rust fixed it will be clean as hell. i'm putting the lip kit on it and then prolly an hid retrofit and then the exterior is done. i want to keep it as clean and non rice as i can.

plus i'm building the d16 so it will be a sleeper until they here the blow off valve.

 

Ya I'm just making mine look good as hell... and driving it for the disguistingly great gas mileage.
