Default Stripping powdercoat off of wheels

Sorry if this was posted in the wrong section, but I was wondering if "aircraft stripper" can remove powdercoat off of wheels.

I wanted to use the search feature, but it's out of commission for the moment.

yes you can but most of the time if the powdercoat already on the rim is of good quality your better off sanding the surface and repowdercoating over it.

This is not necessarily true. Aircraft stripper does remove coating, but you'd need at least a full can or so per wheel. At that point, you're into for about $30. That and the shiz burns and it's a pita to work with if the coating is thick. Turns rubbery and is a bitch to scrape off.

I suggest you bring the wheels to someone that does media blasting and have them clean your wheels up for you. It's normally about $20 to $35 a wheel. If they're really nice wheels, it's totally worth it.

Well I wasnt trying to waste about $120 just to strip my wheels! so I blasted and re-powdered and even then I just roughed them up then cleaned. But if you say so!

The chemical that eastwood company sells looks like it work really well and I think you can use it a few times but it is expensive as well

sandblasting is the only way youll get it come off, but im under the impression if something is powdercoated it aint coming off, its not paint, its in the metal. so u just need to repowercoat them for a new color

The product that EW sells requires that you soak the part in it so that the coating can come off. Considering the price of that stuff per gallon...it's only cost effective for someone that can do it over and over again. And I know this since I coated for over 2 years and used this product for most of that time.

Would a stripping disc be effective at all at removing the powdercoat? I wouldn't know but it is just a suggestion.

Probably not, too many tight spots that the disc won't reach.

i used aircraft remover on my Hx rims.. worked just fine... took off that dull greyish coating they all have.. now its a nice shiny polished rim. sprayed.. let it sit... scraped it off... for stubborn areas i just re-applied aircraft remover and repeated the process

i have used air craft stripper to remove pc.what worked for me was to take 80 grit and scratch through the surface of the pc.then the stripper can get down under the coating and t will come off much faster.its still a long process of scraping letting it soak scraping and so on.

I do alot of PC, mostly valve covers and small parts, but air craft remover works just fine ... just buy the spray can prolly will take atleast a can PER wheel tho...

like everyone said it would be best if you took them and had them blasted, i have a local company that does it for me for $15/wheel
