Accord f22 vtec swap to 86' crx?
I found a car these ppl will sell for $400, it has the f22 vtec and it's automatic. I was wondering how much it would cost to swap into my crx and what transmission i could use as a manual 5-speed? Also what about running a manual transmission with an Automatic ecu? My crx needs seats etc so i'm gonna use the accord seats in my crx. Anyway tell me what u all think.
mounts will run you at around 350. any f series tranny except the s2k will work....unless you plan on making the s.o.b. rwd. you cant run the automatic ecu with a manual tranny. now with that out of the way youll also need a diff wire harness or convert yours due to it having a auto tranny and you swapping it to a manual...good luck bud
um. there aren't any F series mounts for 1st gen rex/3rd gen civic.. and, is your car carbed or FI already? the seats won't bolt in, you'll need to fabricate mounts.

A) No one makes mounts
B) You made no mention to the fact that all F and H series trannies are interchangeable from 88-01.
C) The Auto ECU will run the car just fine assuming its OBD1. There are plenty or write ups on converting it so it doesn't throw a code for the auto lockup solenoid.
D) Obviously, wiring work will need to be done, but it's not because it was an engine/ecu from a automatic car.
Now the **** he didn't even touch on... Just swapping an F series into an EG chassis, the accessory belts are already on the frame rail. You'd have to heavily modify the driver's side frame rail for the crank pulley and belts, and the passenger frame rail for tranny clearance, to the best of my knowledge. Just look for H22 swap info into an EA. It's the same swap, but you're gaining back just a little clearance on the driver's side.

Chris, I have an F22 that I'll be stuffing into my rex. I know it will be a lot of work, but will be a good platform for boost. Main things will be custom mounts, custom axles, D or B series transmission, and a lot of wiring. Hopefully you don't let these guys discourage you. At the very least, it'll set you apart from all the B and ZC powered rex's which everyone seems to have.
my posts aren't meant to discourage, they are there to distinguish the real facts to what people have told him.. by all means, go ahead and do it. i think it would be awesome. the F22 is a great motor.. BUT, don't expect someont to be there to hold your hand the entire way as there isn't anyone out there that has really done the swap. i'm just trying to put his project into "reality" as opposed to what he and others think is out there..
I have a well running F22 sitting under a tarp in my backyard which is why it's my preference.
I've never seen a single aftermarket part for the stock EW engine, or the A series for that matter.
I'm not going to jump on the K series bandwagon just yet, although I admit it's a good engine if you don't care too much about torque.

Lots of aftermarket parts for A-series. B-series rods and pistons, A18 valve springs, lots of cams, cam gears, headers, b16 intake manifolds. I've seen NA A20 motors that do 160whp and more even on a budget, lots more power turbo. Your local speed shop will not have a clue though, and not as plentiful as your B-series motors. But if you're gonna turbo, might as well just turbo the EW. I was mostly kidding.
