Although it really is a retarded law, to not allow a smaller, more fuel efficient engine than say, an H23 engine.

what kind of car is this in? if its in a 3rd gen integra, u may be able to pass smog with it at a normal smog station, it cannot be bar'd, but visually it looks just like the ls motor so it just depends on if the smog tech realizes its not the stock motor.

Since engine swapped cars must conform to the emissions requirements of the engine donor car, that would allow the swap to run "dirtier" than before, increasing pollution. Thats also why the donor must be same year or newer, to force the same or more stringent smog requirements after the swap (the car will not pollute more, and possibly pollute less).
So, I get why the law is what it is. But, at first glance it does seem retarded to not allow a B20 when a J35 would be legal...

Someone please explain how it could be BAR'd in a 4-door Integra if it's illegal in CA to put a light truck motor in a car? A 4-door Integra is a "car" just like a 2-door Integra, and not a truck.
Emissions requirements on light duty truck engines is much more lax than for car engines.

Unless someone can show proof of a B20 being BAR'd in a 4-door Integra, no more saying you "think" it can be done or you "thought you heard" it can be done. Sounds like a load of incorrect information to me.
Just to point this out, the 88-91 Prelude had the engine designation B20A. That engine is legal to swap into a same year or older car.
The CR-V B20, is what isn't legal in a passenger car.
