Start with basics, Car, Motor, Anything done recently?
Three big options though why you would smoke (depends on color)
White smoke - Headgasket (coolant getting in combustion chamber)
Blue smoke - Piston rings or valve seals (oil getting in combustion chamber)
Black smoke - Running WAY too rich (too much gas in combustion chamber)

but if it is purely black smoke you may have disconnected your IAT sensor when you put the CAI on..... if you did it may be tricking the computer about the actual temp of the air entering your engine so it is throwing more fuel than needed.....
If it reads 0 degrees it will throw more fuel into the combustion chamber than if it is reading lets say 110 degrees....(i had a similar problem with my 91 accord) example: cold air is more dense, means it needs more fuel to achieve the proper burn.

wow thanks for the post about the iat, i have that exact problem. My iat connection is really bad. I knew something was wrong cause i have really dark exhaust, and my plugs got fouled from bein way too rich. When i pull the cel i get a 10 which is iat, so i tested continuity and had none then i sprayed electronic cleaner into the plug and it was perfect continuity so i put it back on and didn't get the code then ten minutes later i got the code. Obviously the plug is bad, can that be taken apart very easily and fixed or should i just get a good plug and solder it in. I don't want to just tear open my plug before i get some good advice, and i wasn't really sure up until now that that was the problem, I was thinking along the lines of headgasket etc.

hmmm you could probly get a connector off of a wireing harness.... then solder it in.... but a bad head gasket normally dosnt produce dark black smoke..... but if you have fouled out plugs then you may not be burning your air fuel mixture completely..... but fix your IAT connector before you condem your headgasket
