OVER REVVED SOHC TO 8K, bent valve >? HELP ?
ok i have a al motor built d16a6 block with d16z6 hea, i gave it a bit of gas in first and when i went to shift to second i accidently held the gas a bit and it revved up to about 8k ??
sound just like it did ? but could a valve bent ? and what would be the sideaffect if its bent ??

the real question is why did you remove the rev limiter if the head wasn't built to handle it.

I hightly doubt one small rev to 8k would hurt a d16z6 head. Stock redline on a z6 is 7200 RPM, so a small burst of 8k should not be that harmful. Now I do not recommend doing it ever again, but as long as it is still running ok and there are no weird noises you are fine.
BTW one time my gas pedal got stuck on the floormat and I revved my z6 over 8k (there is a fuel cut off, but the needle bounced somewhere between 8-9k.) and no harm done. So you are fine.

I'm not understanding. Does it run rough now? Have you checked compression?
Z6 heads should be fine to 8K (depending on mileage and prior abuse).
Bill Gude told me that he could rev a stock Z6 valvetrain to 8600 all day. Not sure I believe that, but that's what he said, and he has a bit more experience than me.

well you could have floated a valve or two. You might have messed up the head. you could have also cracked or chipped one or more pistons. as long as its running fine though i wouldn't worry about it. if you hear something angry though going on in the engine bay then you might have done some serious damage.

Maybe im missing something because of his bad english but it didnt sound like he said it was running different or making noise. But once again there is a low risk of head damage. The block is what is going to suffer from 8k RPM revving if it is not built for it.
Like everyone else is saying if it doesn't make funny noises then you're fine. My cousin missed a downshift to fourth on the high way and hit 2nd. Lil d16 went BAAAAAAAAAAAHHHHHHHHHHHH and the needle smacked 8700 for a fraction of a second. It still drove to Sacramento from Fresno on 42 mpg. hahaha. Single cams can take abuse. x]
well he clearly said the a6 bottom end was built. what that entails exactly i am unsure. and yes i assumed he was saying that it was running poorly. i didn't realize the possibility that maybe he was freaking out even if the engine was still running perfectly fine..

IT SOUND FINE, the motor was just built and has 200 miles on it.
block is built, 75.5 over and zc pistons, in d16a6 block with ls rods, d16z6 head with new valves, also block has race bearings.
so if it sound fine then no biggy right ? and rev limiter was moved to 8k becasue on dyno that was its peak power, but when i shiftd and let of the clutch it went from 5,500 to 8k in 1 mila second .

EDIT: ok just saw his post. Dude you are fine to rev to 8k once and awhile ok the stock head. I just wouldnt do it daily...
if it runs fine should be ok.. over 6 years ago when I first got my car.. d16y7 being stupid i downshifted to 2nd at about 75 mph thinking it would be faster...
but my car still runs fine

yeak + i have a 7.5lbs fly wheel sso it revved harsh.
