I have searched and searched for someone with a similar problem and am coming up short. I know the p0171 means lean bank 1 and have seen the possible issues. however my problem is that, when the fuel level gets down to around 1/4 tank (about 3 gal) that the car sputters and dies and has problems running like it is not getting enough fuel. I was thinking something with the fuel pressure. When I fill the car up it runs fine but the CEL is still on.

What should my first step to recovery be? (pres. reg., fuel pump, o2 sensors)
