Default Bent compressor wheel blades...

I recently purchased a GT4294r turbo off a member of this forum who described it as being in excellent slightly used condition with only a few dyno pulls on it. What I received was a turbo with 2 bent compressor wheel blades, right at the tips like it was dropped down on a table without a housing on it. My thoughts are that the compressor wheel now is going to be more weak than factory, not going to flow the maximum amount of airflow it was designed to flow, and that it is going to throw the whole assembly out of balance. Being I paid well over $1000 for the turbo and I intend to push it to its limits at 40+ psi of boost, should I be concerned with the damage? The seller assures me he knew nothing about the bent blades and that there is nothing to be concerned about... but what are some of your thoughts?

If you paid that much for the turbo, you likely won't pay more than retail if you had someone replace the comp wheel and rebalance it. Its highly unlikely its done an damage to the bearings already. Since it doesn't need a new CHRA/seals, it shouldn't be expensive.

You could probably get away with the bend+rebalance if you weren't going to push it as far, but the whole point behind a big BB turbo is to get all the power you can.

You really think that's going to affect anything?

I've seen stuff a hundred times worse that caused no issues at all.

I'd hardly say "like it was dropped down on a table without a housing on it. " LOL

Think about the affect of a chip on the blade in comparison, which is VERY common and very rarely causes an issue. If you saw the compressor wheel that came off my car after the E Town race where I broke into the 8's you wouldn't believe it was on the car.

LOL, man i have seen some chewed up compressor wheels before and that my man is nothing to worry about.

Send me that turbo and i will upgrade it with a 72mm wheel for you with straight blades if you feel that bad about running it

X2, Ive seen some turbos with chips out of the wheels, and people using them and it not affecting anything...Mine got a couple nicks in it from the burnout boxs have small stones, at least thats what im thinking it would be...

The turbo looks fine, not going to affect anything..

Looks like it might have got bumped when they were putting the compressor housing on. No biggie.

Man I had a 60-1 that ate a screen that was so thick I had to dolly it around the compressor housing. It was nasty looking. I rocked it for a couple months then I took a jewelers file to blades and made them all even looking then rocked it for another 6 months

One of AMS's evos has some serious jacked up fins, look how they all perform.

Tony1 do you happen to have any pictures of your 8sec turbo or is that all a big secret?.. haha.
