I need to know how to check if an engine is stolen or not. I found an engine for a swap that i want to eventually get Bar'd that i want to buy but will not if it is stolen. I have the VIN off the engine and tranny and they match and the seller said he has a reciept but i dont want to risk it. How can I check if the engine is stolen or not?

 

i think you can go to your local police station and giv thm the vins and thy can checj it out for you... if it comes out stolen then turn thos f$#%en thieves in.

 

Is that the only way? Is there a site online that you can check to see if the engine is stolen or not?

You could try carfax but I don't know if their report is going to have the right info.

or you can check the vin on carfax and see the status of what it has been through..not sure if its going to tell you it was stolen, but it should tell you the history of the car it was in for instance salvage due to theft, or w/e if it is theft you can probably assume it was stolen.. hope it's not though GL!
