97 Civic Smog Test Problem!!!
Hey everyone, I had to take my car in to get a smog test and here's what happened.
My car passed everything except for the "OBD II" self check or whatever it was.
I dont know much about cars, but this is what the guy tells me. He said i passed everything but it didnt pass because the obd2 haven't set itself or "learned or programmed" itself yet. He asked if I recently got my check engine light to go off or if someone unplugged my battery.
I didnt know so I told him I have no idea. So then he tells me to drive around for 40 or 50 miles then go back so the obd2 will have enough time to reprogram itself.
I found out my bro accidently unplugged the battery when he was messing around with my car. Anyway, my question is, How many miles do I have to drive before I should go back? I know he told me 40 or 50 miles, but I want some opinions from people on here! He already charged me $40 bucks for the inspection. And he's going to charge me another $30 for the retest and plus $10 if i pass this time for the certificate. So what do you guys think? I dont want to go in a fail again!
Oh yea, if it's a check engine light problem, I use to goto autozone to get the obdII as a loan tool, but now they dont loan it out anymore for some reason. Since they can't loan it out, do any of you know if they would read it for us tho in the parking lot?
Thanks for any info everyone!

yes autozone and advanced will read your obd in the parkinglot. Not a problem. I've heard something about what your experiencing.. kind of hondas way of preventing you from scamming thru inspection. You have to drive a certain mileage for everything to work right. But I could be wrong
