I got a GSR shortblock with the B18c1 stamp shaved off. It was shaved off for some reason and I doubt there is any way to restore it. I know its a GSR block from the brackets labeled as p72 but how legal is rocking a engine with the stamp is shaved off, in California? What should I do? Suggestions?
options: buy new shortblock?

What car is this going into? If its going into a GSR, theres a chance it might not matter that much (cops might not suspect as much seeing a Vtec motor in a GSR chassis). If its going into another car then its illegal anyways, unless its BAR'd. I'm not 100% sure, but I think the VIN is the only thing you should be worried about. You can always just purchase another one for piece of mind.

First, this engine is STOLEN.
Second, this is exactly how you get your car crushed into a little cube in CA.
"Police need a court order to destroy the cars. They must prove that the serial or identification numbers on a vehicle or its parts are removed, altered or destroyed."

If the only thing is missing is the B18C stamp then how does it constitute as being stolen? It's not like that alone will stop some one from knowing it's stolen, Get it re-stamped.
Isnt the serial # right under the engine code? (sounds like its gone also) Where did you get the engine? You should turn it over to the police and the info on the person you got it from.

I regret buying this guy. The longblock was sold through a shop and I thought I could trust him. But ya.. would the head be traceable too? If I were to contact the local police should I give them just the shortblock or the head too?
Information on this guy:
Name: "Chris"
Shop: Import Automotive Repair in Modesto
Cell: (209)606-4888
He's an Indian with a cowboy accent

no the head is not stamped with a serial # so you can leave that but they can run the block but thats a main reason people do that cause its stolen is there a vinn # on the bottom of the block?
my tranny sticker is gone but the shop i went to did a tune up and the tranny shop next to it does the tranny fixes etc..
so the main shop (one w/ the tune up work) didn't notice until i pointed it out and the tranny shop said it probably peeled off somewhere
well the thing is they said if the cops don't believe the paper work for repair or etc. bring them up and they'd defend my cause
so can a cop say "NO STICKER, YOUR ***** GONNA BE CRUSHED NOW" they CANT touch my car if they see the paper work or until i call up the shop etc right?

just because it is shaved odd coesnt mean it is stolen. the b18c1 stamp and the serial below it doesnt go with the carsvin at all it is just the production of the block. i had a gsr block and i shaved off the b18c1 and serial when my buddy put it togather and took before pics of it to show anyone who thought it was stolen. just did it and punched a questionmark into where it used to be for *****
i would def get that replaced, and or get it out of your car.
i know cops here don't really check. but california cops are dicks straight up..

The seial number on the engine block can be traced to the original vin. There is no reason to remove the markings if you have nothing to hide, atleast thats my opinion.
