toyo's new drag radial
anybody get their hands on them yet to try out? How did they fair against the competition? The only FWD friendly one they have now is a 255/50/16 but I think that's not too far off if the price is right. They look promising.

That looks like a size that really isnt good for anyone, maybe an awd car. I called pretty much every tire company that makes a DR and they all said that they are not made for clutch cars and really wouldnt work for the fwd application. Pretty bad when they wont even tryo to sell you their own stuff.
This was mid last year though.

toyo doesn't seem to be all there in the smarts department. Lets make a slick for a fwd class but not sell a 13" version where more people use 13's than anything else!!

M&H all day for me

You also didnt read my post. I said, "They are not made for CLUTCH cars and really wouldnt work for the fwd application."
What I get from that is, they are saying they are less than ideal for a FWD chassis and even more so for one that uses a clutch. From all the tire manufacturers that I spoke with the only thing they suggested were the bias ply tires but made it very well known that even though they are street legal they arent for street use.
NO, people can make drag radials work for them in the fwd application. I was stating that I had looked into them and started calling around trying to figure out what the manufacturers thought would be good for a fwd clutch opperated car. MT, Hoosier, and whomever else I could find that made a drag radial in a size that was sport compact friendly I called. The "tech" guys that worked for these companies told me that the radial tires wouldnt work well for what I wanted and that the only thing that would really make the car hook up was a bias ply tire. Apparently its very hard for a radial tire to recover from a spin/shock to the tire due to its hard sidewall over a mushy bias ply tire.
The sizes Toyo created in the D.O.T. drag radial are for RWD applications.
For FWD, you'd be better off with bias slicks at the track (Toyo makes a 26x9-15 and 25x9-15 slick), but for street driving and limited track use, a smaller sized D.O.T. drag radial would work.
