Can someone identify this cylinder head casting number??
My friend and I were trying to find out what year head is on his gsr motor and i wanted to know if anyone knows how to read the honda casting numbers stamped into the head, the engine is a b18c1.
His head reads 86 11 27 06

look at the number directly above cylinder 4 exhaust port. That is the year the head was cast. The first number on the block indicates the year the block was cast according to the first year that series of blocks were made. For examble a GSR block number that starts with a '1' would be a 94 block since 94 was the first year B18c1 were made. A block code starting with a 2 would be a 95 block, and so forth. The folloing numbers indicate the block's build sequence. For example a block code 1000001 would be the 1st B18C1 block built in 1994.

B16 and Type-R motors have the same CAST head...some of the differences between the two heads are that the Type-R head has a better and stronger valvetrain, the cams, lighter valves, the better intake manifold and bigger throttlebody, and a mild port job from the factory.
b16 and type-r heads are stamped PR3-X (x being a random number...in this case its 4)
see:

P72 cast head - GSR b18c head

Also another random fact: u can tell the date of the head by the numbers to the far left of those circular stamps with numbers on it. See the " 0 0 " ? That means this head was manufactured in 2000.

where is the 00?
where is the 00?
it is located on the pr3 head (b16) between the first two exhaust ports, the small circles have numbers on each side.
as far as the numbers on the p72 head, its located directly above the second exhaust port. which is a 98 upside down

Please take a pic, there is a possibility that it says 86, there was a head on the original b18 in 86 (japan only) but take a pic.
