Suggestions For an H22 Swap
Hey everyone I was looking to start a project and wanted to do a swap. This will be my first complete swap and was wondering if you guys had any input. I already have the car and engine lined up for a great price, just have to wait until march to purchase. I am getting a 92 hatchback and an H22 motor. The owner is getting rid of it because he had some things come up that are keeping him from working on it.
The H22 had some work done to it but it isn't complete because the machine shop was F***ing around with it and took over a year just to bore it .25 oversize. Along with the motor im getting Type S pistons, hasport axles, and a few other things(sensatrac shocks, blox lower control arm, an h22 ecu, rebuilt tranny, and stock rods and crankshaft). I know the block has to be balanced and assembled but i was wondering if you guys had any input on some other things you may get for this set up to maximize my HP while staying NA.
Thanks for any input to help out a NooB

If i upgrade to type s cams will i have to upgrade valve train. I was trying to research this and got mixed answers. Few were saying yes and a few were saying no. Whats your opinion?

No if you have it tuned, at most type S springs and retainers to go with the cams. Honda's Type S & R cams are near stage 1 specs, so you don't have to build your vavletrain for these cams thats why CTR cams in a B16 is so popular for example...
What out about boring it, .25 is the limit because there frm sleeves. If you plan on putting aftermarket pistons the only thing you can use is mahle golds. They're the only company that claims to have pistons that work with the stock block. Type s cams would be nice but for all motor if you get a set of skunk2's stage 2's and the basic bolts on's that can easily set you at 200whp or over and keep the stock bottom end. Theres a guy here thats done this and i think his dyno sheet may be here. He's also at h22squad i think it is too. Go to the hybrid forum, he's there somewhere. h22squad.com also has a fairly good marketplace for h2b parts and h22 stuff. But the marketplace here is a lot bigger

I know the H22 can be bored over, but I still don't like the idea; the FRM chips and can cause an uneven cylinder if it's done improperly, and will wear like a **** when the engine runs again. Anyways, 0.25" is not a valid overbore; I'm assuming it's 0.025" over, or is it 0.25mm over? Are the Type-S pistons stock size? If they are, they won't work. Nothing short of resleeving a block will make them work. I believe the Type-S pistons are available in an overbore size, but I'm not entirely sure on the sizing or manufacturer. I wouldn't even waste my time with them either, as they have weak ring lands.
I'd go with the Mahle pistons, Type-S cams & valvetrain, Skunk2 or EuroR intake, name-brand header (in this case, DC, Greddy and Mugen aren't the name brands I'd be after). H2B is a big plus, too.

yeah, i meant .025" im just used to seeing everyone put.25. Anyways theres a service bulletin from honda on how to properly bore them, but you've already done that. Its important on a stock block to get mahle GOLDS, not just mahles. The golds are for stock block and standards are for sleeved blocks.
Thanks for the input if thats the case i will just have to sell the pistons that i already have for it and get the mahle golds. Should i stick with the H22A4 rods still?
