Hey guys, I am about to order 15" wheels for my drag radials. Is there anyone who is running this size tire without any rubbing issues? If so, what width and offset are your wheels? Thanks. Setup is in sig, car is lowered on 2" drop progress H2EG springs...

 

I think I have read some of your posts while I was searching to find the stickiest drag radial for the street and have you thought about MT or MH people say that they blow bfg's out of the water.. Especially when you are at 500+hp .

Still can't figure out what would hook better i'm guessing mh more for the track due to it being bias plys and MT for the street since it is more of a radial. <-- Just my uneducated guess though.

 

yea, i was going to try the mh until i heard it was bias ply. I drive this thing every day and want it to be as comfortable as possible, bias ply on a daily driver just doesnt sit well with me, and I am a bfg dealer so i can get the bfg's for about half of the mt's, so again since this thing is daily driven and gets so many miles, im going to try the bfg's first.

 

im running a 15x6.5, 38mm offset and and this is about as low as i can go and not scrub. (unless i hit a big damn pot hole)




Im about to be on my 3rd set. They do ok when they are pretty new. When they get a little worn i start to spin a bit in 3rd gear(on the street). And of course if its cold outside nothing is going to hook up.

 

thanks for the response, im fine with that, this stupid thing is spinning 4th all the time on my 205/50r14 555r's so anything will be better. Are you happy with the 6.5 width, or would you go 7" if you could do it again?

 

I'm running +40 but i cant remember if I'm on a 225 or a 215 and I'm at work so i cant be positive.... I think its a 225.... But whatever size they are they don't rub at all i will say not the best tires in the world but for the price they aren't bad!!

 

I put mine on rotas, they are 15x6.5 wheels +40 offset. I have no rubbing issues, but I'm not lowered much..maybe 1 inch. I hate these tires. I would not recommend them. I've got maybe 1000 miles on them tops, they have maybe 25% life left, I haven't done any burnouts, only daily driven. You would think for the quick wear that they would hook a lot better, but they really don't. If I'm only going to get 1500 miles out of a set of tires, I'm going to get the MT's next time and actually hook up on the street.

 

you could maybe get a set of bfgs to last a summer.. but if you wanted a drag radial that was gonna last a long time get a set of 555r extreme drags, and a boost by gear boost controller.. the nittos arnt the best for hooking up but they hook better than a street tire and last a long time..

 

I'm on those right now, and they dont hook even in a smooth 4th gear pull. Maybe they would do a little better if they were made in a more useful size, but they are only offered in a 205/50r14 and they are just too short and too narrow to work for my setup. I would LOVE to get a set in 225/50r15 or a comparable size in 16", but they just arent made.

 

the 6.5" wheel seems to be wide enough to give the tire a good contact patch.

And my first set lasted about 1700 miles but that was about 15 runs at the track with descent burnouts and spun them around town everywhere.
Now ive got about 3000 miles on them with a LITTLE bit calmer driving. lol .and that includes a good bit of dyno time. Ive probably got another 500 miles left on them before they are totally gone.

 

how do they wear on those wheels? is the middle going out first, or is it going straight down?

Ah yes Boost by Gear is a good idea if you are running BFG's...

My setup:

98 Civic
2" drop (H&R Sport springs)
15x6.5 Rotas (+40 offset)
225/50/15 BFGs

There were slight problems with rubbing, when the tires were new. Normal suspension movement from freeway driving (such as the transitions from asphalt to concrete when you go over an overpass) caused the tires to rub the plastic fender liner. Rolling the fender was definitely required. The tires would also rub the frame rail with the wheel turned all the way to the side.

However, now that they're bald, there are no rubbing issues. Of course, by now, the plastic fender liner has been completely eaten through and needs to be replaced on both sides. The sound dampening undercoat and paint is also completely stripped off of the frame rail where it rubbed.

The offset was the not the problem here, as the tires were rubbing on both sides of the wheel well. The car is just too low. I do have OEM shocks however, and I feel that a stiffer shock probably would have prevented the rubbing issue on the freeway. I'm about to re-order new BFGs, but first I'm going to swap the H&R springs for coilovers so I can raise the car up a bit. If if was just a 1/2" higher it would be ideal. Since you have the same 2" drop, you'll probably have the same rubbing issues, unless you have more aggressive (or adjustable) shocks.

 

thanks for the response, how long did the tires last for you? I am thinking that if i can grab some 7.5" wide wheels, it will pull the tread out wider, and in turn make them shorter diameter at the same time to hopefully eliminate the fender rubbing probs you are having...

 

im currently on 15x7" rotas with +40 with the 225/50 bfgs. lowered on omni coilovers with about 1 finger gap at the fender. it rubs the fender liners on some of the bigger bumps but i have no frame rubbing at full lock.

no its a shaved regular VC and a neukin catch can and manifold.

 

They lasted about 4k miles, with tons of daily wheel spin (because I haven't set up gear dependent boost yet for 1st/2nd gear). Just be sure to get your alignment checked when you install them because a little bit of toe will eat these things up in no time.
