vafc / ems / stand alones / hondata?????.... ahhhhh
Ok.. My question is.. since I am going to be rebuilding a good hunk of my engine now .. (see story in kills for details)
I might as well fix the puter as well
I planned on getting a VAFC and or Hondata
but if I eventually get the AEM EMS or some other engine management system, do I still need the VAFC and or Hondata?
EDIT:
Also, are there any difference in the VAFC's i mean between the different engines? (sorry, but im kinda stupid in this area) or are all VAFC's the same?

All VAFCs are the same for each engine. If you are going to go through with it I would suggest either getting the EMS or a Hondata.
EMS is an awesome product at an awesome price, but I think you might have a hard time getting it tuned by someone since it's fairly new. Hondata is really great too and an awesome price as well. For ease of tuning I would go reliability, since almost every Honda tuner out there knows how to properly tune these things.

I've heard people comment about those Link ECU's but they are not mainstream in Honda tuning, and thus, little is known about them. If you have a link, I wouldn't mind reading about it.
I like the concept of Hondata, don't get me wrong, but for the amount that you pay for a 4B where you can burn your own programs, that money can be better spent on an AEM EMS, with that unit, you can tune for traction, not just on a base map either, if the laptop is in you car (which I'm assuming it will be when you go to the track or to the street races) then you could theoretically change ECU programs from street to street or track to track, and store different programs for different track conditions, temperatures, etc, after all, those are the things that everyone bitches about all the time when they aren't running good, fix that, and your car can be a whole hell of a lot quicker. And by setting different amps for different conditions then you are always running at peak effeciency. And lets say you spin bad out of the hole, well, have the ECU's map compensate a little by turning down the boost a little out of the hole to reduce power output, and the less power output, the easier it is to get traction. The opportunities that the AEM EMS unit provides are endless. Allowing you to datalog and track every event under your hood. For the extra money, I consider it well worth it.

if you're broke...get the VAFC...if you're not, go with hondata...and if you want to go all out...go with the aem ems. i'm broke so i'll go with the vafc. and it's one or the other.
I still think Hondata is the best for people who want reliability but dont want the hassle of tunign their own cars.
Stage 2 for n/a retails for only $295 - same cost as VAFC but more features
Stage 2b for boost is only 545 retail
You dont need all that 4b stuff

Any full engine managment program is the best way to go. Between Hondata and AEM EMS. Hondata seem to have the most support for now. - there fore
to that. Choose whatever system you could find a better tuner for.

I use a vafc and I have a Hondata3b in the parts collection for my engine build. I got them both at killer prices. Right place, right time.
