I was at Kragen the other day in need for some NGK plugs. I always get the basic ones. The work....the guy that works there told me if I wanted some platinum ones. Is their any difference between the basics and platinum....they all work the same....Right??
the platinum I thibnk may run a little hotter since they prdouce a larger spak. May give you better gas mileage. But I would go with the basic plugs since that is what is recommended. Double check my info on those plats though, I may have it backwards.
you wont notice any difference in the plugs, ngk plugs have numbers that determine the heat range from 2-12 2 being hotter, so if you have for example bck4e-11 its heat is a 4 i think stock is 6 and the 11 is the gap
The development of precious metal high temperature electrodes (using metals such as yttrium, iridium, platinum, tungsten, or palladium, as well as the relatively prosaic silver or gold) allows the use of a smaller center wire, which has sharper edges but will not melt or corrode away. The smaller electrode also absorbs less heat from the spark and initial flame energy. At one point, Firestone marketed plugs with polonium in the tip, under the questionable theory that the radioactivity would ionize the air in the gap, easing spark formation.
Changing your spark plugs for platinum ( or any other high temperature metals ) ones might help dissipate heat better then the standard ones in your cylinders giving you overall better gas mileage ( I JUST DON'T KNOW TO WHAT EXTENT ). On top of that, they tend to last longer.
Tuners tend to make a lot of changes to their engines making too much fuel reach the cylinders for what the spark can efficiently ignite.
Best thing to do is to test them both, and return the pair that doesn't seem to do anything more than the other one with the type of use that you make of your car.

just thought id ask, has anybody tried those E3 diamond tip plugs??? just wondering if they worked good or not because in my car they didn't work good they got to hot and miss fired. their not platnum or iridium. normal plugs with a diamond tip bit i paid 7.99 each for them and used em for a week and had problems.
