When I did my roll on $50 job there was orange peel galore. I put on about 10 coats and had to sand for hours to get it smooth. And I kept breaking through the edge of the panels hen the paint isn't as think. It came out good in the end but was way more of a hassle than it was worth.

i've been concidering it for a while myself. the $50 part is a little misleading though...
it's fifty if you already have your sander/buffer and plenty of rollers, ect. although, no matter how you get the paint on, if you want it to look good, you need to buff it.
the other part: you havn't got much color selection, especially if you want something semi-stock looking. black, white, red...yeah.
where this method does make sense is to eliminate over spray. on my buget, and already owning an air comp. buying a HVLP spray gun and any paint i want is well within reach. but i don't want overspray, or masking or cleanup...
these are the things to concider... and anything can look show quality with good prep work, plenty of buffing and attention to detail.

Personally i would never try a $50 spray job even if im tight on funds, i would rather roll around in a car that needs a paint job than a car that has a crappy paint job that i did, it just screams ricer. You could buy a spray gun for about $50 that will be much better than a spray can. You can get decent quality automotive paint I forget what it is called but sometimes they will have like extra cans that they will blow off really cheap as long as you aren't to picky on color you could get enough paint for your car for under a $100 easy. Usually it is a stock color for say a chevy but that color just doesn't sell anymore so they will blow it off even though it is a good quality paint, atleast far better than spray paint. Once you get all the sandpaper, clear coat, primers and other stuff you need it will be about $200 If you work really hard on your budget. I know that is 4 times more than what you want to spend but i would say it is well worth it and will last much longer. The biggest thing would be taking your time making sure to remove everything and tape anything you should. There are a lot of really good write ups on how to do a quality paint job on a budget if you google it. I would just hate to see anyone spray paint there car
WRONG SECTION... ARHHHH theres a PAINT/BODY SECTION. WITH A 50$ PAINT JOB THREAD.
op you suck. you know better.
and 50$ paint jobs can come out very well. it all in your prep and painting skills. IMHO if you buy a cheapo spray gun (a real one not a black & decker) and you mix down the rustoleum enough you can get a very good glossy finish with not much orange peel.
once again though it depends on how well the area is prepped.

$50 isn't very realistic. if you are to do a good job i would problaly need 10 cans of paint, but in that case just buy half a gallon of base and reduce the ****ing **** out of it. spray, then clear. no ****ing around with this rattle can ****. and mess what ****ing mess? wow 10 sheets of newspaper with tape attached. big whoop.

cost of base/clear coat > gallon of rustoleum + odorless mineral spirits. (i spent $25 total)
the OP is talking about using a high density foam roller to roll the paint onto his car. no rattle cans. and yes it will come out with alot of orange peel, and to properly accomplish this type of paint he will have to wetsand it flat every 2 coats of paint. so essentially this type of paint job is very time consuming how ever cost wise it is alot cheaper. and looks half way decent.
honestly best way to approach this type of a paint job is to just reduce it down enough and spray the rustoleum. it will come out with alot less orange peel so it will be less time consuming. how ever not everyone has access to a big air compressor or a spray gun.

I've heard and seen this done I know 1 guy that did this it turned out pritty good but another guy looked like trash completly i guess its all on how hard u work at it and if u know what ur doin but personaly i would never do this just save some money and get it done right, if u have to id say buy ur own paint gun from like a pawn shop and a compressor wouldnt be that expensive and you could use it many times especialy a compressor could be used for many things, and if u do not want over spray paint ur car one early morning after the dew is on the ground and when its not windy and go to town i've seen this done and it'll turn out GREAT if u take ur time even as a begginer, but good luck to you on what ever u do
