I have my 1990 HF with original trans, has Honda MTF in it, but I must have an axle seal leak on the passenger side too, because my trans is low again (I can hear it).
Can I add 10w-30 to the honda MTF? I don't want to buy MTF (expensive and out of the way) if it's just going to leak out again in 3k miles.
I do not have the time to do a full drain and fill. Is it okay to mix?

It's snowy on the ground... I will in spring/summer!
Probably a trans rebuild, in fact!

Any recommendations of the 10w-30? Synthetic? Special mix (High mile gtx, etc)?

You'll be fine with the 10w-30 mix with the MTF. Don't even bother with any Synthetic, special mix as your just gonna loose the oil any way. right? Plus your gonna rebuild your trans anyway.
supertech wally world stuff. i've been running that in all my cars for years, and never had a problem. not in the trans, but....whats it gonna hurt?

i've heard the same thing about royal purple ****. i've got a friend with an 02 mustang gt. i know, not a honda. but the dealership bragged the royal purple thing too. the car has a 3 yr warranty. since he bought it, ford has replaced the engine 2 times. when torn apart it was due to insufficent lubrication, and they are the ones that use the stuff.
yeah, it took about 6500 +/- miles each engine. just last week he was excited because he hit 7000 with the current engine. lol.
Glad I read this...I am here to solve your problem. Lucas makes a product just for trannys! It actually fixes leaks!
I myself use about half a bottle of this stuff in every tranny refill I do. Its not much and you can pick it up at any advance/autozone. Try this out before you just keep wasting money on fluid or damage something due to low level. Good luck and let us know if it helps!

I am quite skeptical of 'stop leak' type additives... aren't they just like putting chewing gum on a hole... except in your tranny? I like the positive attitude though!
There are only three places our trans will leak. DO NOT PUT STOP LEAK BULLSHIT IN IT.
Fix the problem. If its as simple as an axle seal, that is a 20 minute job. If its the bearing, well......fix it.

O I agree 100 percent that you should always fix the problem over trying to put a bandaid on it. But I was just going by where he said. Sorry guys...
But as for saying DO NOT PUT STOP LEAK IN....hmm..idk about that. I mean really all it is, is a thicker tranny fluid. I would not say fill it full of the stuff. But just add alittle to make it have smoother shifts.

ive always used semi thick trans lube for utility trucks and the like. ive never ever had an issue with my trans. i do have a good grind into third at high rpms, but its much better when i replaced the fluid with the thicker gear lube. trans ran much quiter and smoother shifting.

yea the lucas product is basically the same thing. Its actually made for big trucks. But on the back of the bottle it says for smaller trans use only half the bottle. I think the stuff works wonders. No its not going to fix a broken tranny but it could help with your shifts. Makes since alittle thicker fluid is gonna coat better.
Don't forget the block too and there is a chevy green also. haha
