Default B18b swap idles at 7k rpm

Hi I just did a B18b swap into my 99 dx hatch. It starts fine but immedeately goes full throttle by itself. I cut it off when it was at 6k rpm. I did the 3 wire to 2 wire IACv. I couldnt get the pin out of the harness so I just ran wire in all the way to reach the ecu pin. I'm using a P2e and P2P ecu I'm getting a p75 in the mail anytime now. Could it be my IACV, TPS, vacuum leak, or anything else. I doubt its the ecu right? I searched for this but only found some guy with a 91 crx but it wasnt solved. Anything would be appreciated thanks.

how are you using two ecu's??? first see if your trottle is completely closed, if so then it must be the iacv. are you positive you have all the proper connections to the right sensors? im not sure on why you would to the 3 to 2 wire iacv. was this needed for the swap???

You just about listed everything that could be wrong about 90% of the time. Now which one did you tamper with the most? It almost sounds like you answered your own question.

You're pretty much right about the ecu tho, unless you've tampered with that as well. But definitly get the p75 in there to rule that out.

Vaccum leak? Don't think so. Not to the point of 7k rpms.

TPS? IACV? Are you throwing any codes? You could start there...

Need to check tightness of throttle cable, make sure throttle body is not sticking, and check tps and adjust it to oem standard

THanks for the advice.
I got the p75 in the mail tonight I will try it first thing in the morning and let you guys know. And yes the iacv fix was needed for the swap. All civic dx, cx, and lx and automaic ex came with a 3 wire IACV and every other civic and integra comes with a 2 wire. The throttle plate isnt opening so do you think its the iacv i will try cleaning it. Im throwing at least one cel I'll use a scanner from autozone and see the codes. Thanks I'll keep you posted.

I got the p75 with jumper and switched around some plugs but when I went to start it the timing belt was falling off because a friend undid the tensioner to get the timing cover off to install the driver side bracket. I gotta redo the timing. The belt is sitting right on the teeth of the gear, instead of in between it almost went all the way through.

I'll keep you posted

check and make sure your throttle cable isnt being pulled on. i know tps and iacv will mess with the idle but even with the iacv unplugged it wont go to 7k. good luck

Happened to me once. Turned on my car and it went straight to 7rpm.

But a belt mounting my intake got sucked up and jammed the throttle open...

I don't really want to talk about it.

Just saying check up there for belts, rocks, sticks, screw drivers, chess pieces, various items usually lying around in your engine bay.

Hope you find the issue.

why would smogging it with an ecu that is designed for a different engine give you better results than the p75 ecu that is made to run the engine you have..

Because the P75 with jumper; is an obd 1 ecu. I need an obd2 ecu. But anyways first I gotta get it running.

The TPS won't really affect the the idle, if it is disconnected, it throws a check engine light and the ECU will only read it at 0%. Also, I've never heard of an IACV causing the idle to rise that high, usually if it is damaged it will just fluctuate the idle between 1200rpm-1600rpm, but I might be mistaken. The only thing I can think of is a vacuum leak if your throttle isn't stuck open.

So lsvtec cp and NHswap13203; your telling me an enormous leak like that of the im gasket being bad? Makes sense but I never thought of that. Hey I also did the dizzy wiring but all that was matching colors, the dizzy has nothing to do with it right?
I'll check that out just feel around the im for air right?

I'm an impressive person. Probably the only one you will ever know who sucks a belt up there intake.

Not like a belt around your waist though. A strap.

Still just as bad...

I redid the timing and got it started! Just by changing to p75 now it idles at 3 to 3500 rpm. Not acceptable but something to work with. I'm getting an obd scanner on friday and I'll see what codes I have.
PS my speedometer fluctuates up and down too. Is that related?

The speedometer fluctuation most likely is due to your distributor wiring. double check and make sure you did everything right. also, take carb cleaner and spray it around the intake manifold and throttle body if the idle drops then you have a leak. because it will suck in for a second and drop the idle. good luck

its the vacum leak for sure man! i had the samething on my b20vtec in a 96 Ek hatch i was running a obd2a gs-r ecu but the motor had a jdm b16 head so it was idleing at 6.6rpm then i got the jumper harness obd2a to obd1 p28 type-r base map the car was idling between 2 to 3.8 i checked all the vacum leaks and reset your computer through the fuse box after your done, when you shut off the car? does it have hard time shutting off? like the engine shaking and timing going the other way?
