like the title. my friend has an 87 civic that he wants to slam. i know in the rear u can use coilovers/springs. what do u use for the front?

 

The car has adjustable torsion bars up front..... You turn it down.

wait a second here... yes they are torsion bars... yes they can be turned down. But remember most would consider this is be a soft setup... and it will bottom out easy. You can use integra ones that rode well. But since you said slammed... I would recommend a aftermarket set. Some might consider them spendy...and they are for some. But I am sure they are worth the cash.

I also noticed since you will be slammed you will be bottoming out the shock in no time at all. There i a mod or two to extend your chock travel. If you do your research.. you will find lost of bits and pieces that can make a decent slammed setup

 

... wow almost forgot... the rear pan hard bar will have to be custom. OEM one will set it off center when real low.

 

Slamming any car is never a good idea, suspension travel is lost when you drop a car and your kidneys will soon wish you had not put the car down into the weeds.

That aside, it is cheap and easy to slam a torsion bar car like the old Civics. Take the torsion bars out, turn them one spline, and put them back in.

now why only 1 spline? ive heard that 2 is a nice drop. im trying to figure out what im going to need to dump mine. so far im going with gc coilovers in the rear and tokico illuminas on all 4 corners. i havent thought to far ahead about upgrading the torsion bars. but im also going to be rocking cusco front and rear tower bars.

i plan on autocrossing the car so i want a decent setup...

 

If you are gonna Auto X it.... you will need some suspension travel. You might wanna look over some of the threads in the suspension section and see what I mean.

 

You are talking to people who have Been There, Done That.

One spline is all you need.

Some more tricks:

Replace the front control arms with Integra pieces, they are slightly longer and will give you some negative camber. Otherwise buy a set of camber plates.

Grind the brake line brackets off of your front struts so that you can mount the bottom of the front struts about an inch lower in the knuckles for more suspension travel.

Get the largest rear sway bar you can find. Addco's sway bar is most like the now-unavailable Lightspeed Racing sway bar.

Add as much chassis stiffness as you can.
