Ls vtec won't stay running.....
I have an ls vtec swap in my 89 CRX. Hondata confirmed all electrical is good. I show proper fuel pressure and injectors are firing. I have proper spark and new plugs. It takes a while to start and will idle for about five seconds then dies. If you try to give it gas, it dies. Tps checks fine. Have not dropped the tank to look at the pump yet, but I have pressure so I don't know if it is necessary. Any ideas on the problem? I clamped the return to try to build pressure to see if it would run better and no improvement.
I have everything lined up for timing, I mean close enough to start. The ignition switch seems good becausevim not loosing power. Could my fuel level reading be off and I'm getting air in the fuel line?

I thought the pump was cutting off so I jumpered it at the main relay. Car started after a few rotations then idled perfect then it just dies. If you give it any throttle, dies. Idle air control is wired properly and screens look clean. I have the line looped on the block so no coolant is going to the iav.
DAMN, im having the same problem but mine is a little diferent because before my car was runing fine untill the alternator died on me, I replace it with a brand new one and then the problem happened. The car wont stay runing for more then 3sec. if I start it and give it a little gas like smoke comes out and it has a strong smell of gas like if maybe one or more of the cylinders arent firing. Im remove the spark plugs and going to replace with new ones(currently using BKR7E-11) but ive noticed that on the tip of the spark plug where it connects to the spark plug wire all of them have like a white dust on them just like the battery, those any one know if thats bad??? If that does not work im thinking of replacing the dizzy(distributor) and the spark plug wires, if none of that works does any one have any suggestions????
I have all ideas its the timing is off. my cousin has a ls vtec eg and his did the same thing. he spent countless hours and money trying to fix it and all it needed was a timing light. try that man. it may save you more time and money.
yes this is definately a timing issue, the car startes up because excessive amounts of fuel are injected on start up, allowing the improper timing curve to actually work briefly then when less gas is used the car shuts off(3 secs) have someone check it with timing light
