Vintage Pedal Tractor
Whats up all. I have a toy tractor that was mine and my brothers from when we were kids. My brother is now married and will be having a kid of his own soon. I wanted to suprise him and restore the tractor. My girlfriend and I will be going up to see them in a few weeks for a baby shower, so I wanted to have it done for then.
I was looking for some pointers on prep and paint. Some of the parts are pretty rusted, and I doubt I can find replacements.(after some research it was made in 60s) Im almost positive I can take the entire tractor apart which I assume will make it alot easier to work on. I plan on doing the entire thing in my garage. I will most likely use spray paint since i dont have a gun. I might be able to get a gun and i have a compressor. So if anyone has any imput or ideas let me know.

if possible, have it media blasted, I had alot of parts on my '48 Chevy blasted with Baking Soda just to take the surface rust off.
as for paint, its all in the prep work, a good clean surface, followed by a nice sealer/primer, some more prep work, and paint. it all pays off in the end.

powder coating is a good idea might be kinda pricey for this though. i was going to try a wire wheel for my drill first. if that doesnt work then ill have it sand blasted.
little update. i was able to get it 95% apart and started with a wire wheels in the drill. so far i got the seat done as well as one rear wheel and started on the steering wheel. my memory card and charger for my camera should be here tomorrow so ill take some pics.

haha my mom watches that show. its not that much of an antique. some of these tractors go back to the 40's or 50's. after doing some more research last night i found a site that seems to have alot of parts that should work for this tractor. so i might end up buying some new parts for the ones that are real bad. what do ya think?
been working on the tractor on and off since the first post and here is where i am at so far.
i have the entire frame apart, all 4 wheels are down to the bare metal, the seat and steering wheel are done, and i started on one of the lower side panels.
here are some pics

and i would be frozen if it wasnt for this thing. best $55 i ever spent!

With parts so small you should be able to get away with a sray can if need be. The seat still looks like there is rust, id use some kind of paintable rust converter from you local paint/hardware store.
yea the seat is rough. i was going to use a good primer/sealer then rustoleum paint. thoughts?
ive been using a wire wheel on a corded drill. been working well just time consuming.
yea im getting new tires, new decals, and a new seat bracket. was considering a new seat as well since this one is so rough.
