are you serious???
all the valves always work. and your ECU decides when to engage vtec. so it can kick in at 4800 rpm or 5500 rpm or when ever it wants.

and its RPM NOT RPH

hold on. bz1 doesnt exist. if its VTEC-E you wont have vtec on the top end. its low end. so below 2500 its a 12 valve engine and above it goes to the normal 16 vavle engine. if you had the JDM D15B (many versions of this engine) i would have vtec-e for low end and the conventional vtec for the top end as well.

sorry for the confusion i had it running on the vtec-e ecu before i changed it it was running on 12 valves up to 3,000 rpm on 12 valves and switched to 16 valves and the vtec cam then.now i put in a short ratio gearbox and a 1.5 single cam vvtec ecu so now i think my car runs on 12 valves all the way up to 5,000 or so when the vtec kicks in and revs to 7,200 rpm.i no it not running right but i get no engine man light and car is well faster and the vtec really pulls!lol
its a 1.5 vtec-e hatchback 92

This post makes my head hurt. Vtec-e engines run in 12 valve mode up until around 2500ish RPM. Running a normal SOHC vtec ECU (like a P28) will leave you in 12 valve mode up until close 5000RPM. In other words its going to run like crap. You are also not feeling vtec pull, you are simply feeling normal 16 valve operation much later than you should, and fyi you should never feel vtec "kick" or "pull" you should only hear it engage, if you can feel it means you're loosing power before vtec engages, when tuned correctly vtec should be a smooth transition. If you want more power you will have to swap in another engine.

Hahaha yeah I was running the same thing before. I had a vtec-e with a P28 and at around 5000RPM when the ecu normally puts it in normal SOHC vtec mode, the friggin' car pulled like crazy. That was because it was finally switching over to 16 valve mode at RPMs so high, lol. The engine doesn't have the cam profile for the SOHC vtec, only normal 16 valve operation.

I am in a worse situation though, cause I have a JDM 3 stage vtec running off a P28 now. I only have the regular vtec solenoid hooked up, but I can't tell if I am in 16 or 12 valve mode up until 5000 RPM! I am pretty sure that I have SOHC 16 valve vtec because the engine was definitely made to go into that mode.
