Default 4" exhaust anyone?

Yeah that's right I said 4" exhaust. Has anyone ever seen one on a 4th gen? It's probably overkill for my gt35r setup, but i just put my ESP traction bars in and I got to thinking that "I could probably fit a 4" if I wanted to" lol. I don't necessarily plan on doing this being that I have all the material for a 3", but I was just curious if anyone had ever seen one on a 4th gen..... because I sure haven't.

i would think a 4" pipe would scrape, especially right under the oil pan.
i have seen pics of it done one one prelude, so i can say yes it has been done.

what are people doing about 3" downpipes/flex pipe clearance? right below the oil pan. too low. would a moroso pan save any room, even and inch would be nice.

my friend has 4.5, so it can be done, may have to modify to fit kind of crap though.

2 inch would be enough.

2" is definitely not enough for a GT35R... 4" would be tough. Getting under the oil pan and then under the rear control arm would probably be the tightest spots.

GregBB1 did have a full 4 inch aluminum exhaust on his car, granted he was making 640 whp and drove it on the street alot. The flex section was a bit rubbed up, but it worked for sure. The exhaust would still be cool to the touch at the tailpipe after repeated hard runs!

If you are really pushing a GT35R, it could use the breathing for sure, just don't expect to have the lowest car in town.

What would 2" be good for period is what I want to know??
Mostly stock H22s with 3" exhaust have had proven gains.
So I don't know what 2" is going to help at all..

Well, I haven't heard from md23 yet, I'm curious as to what he's running.....

I agree, the tighest spot would be the rear control arm area.... I have the moroso pan, I think it will fit through that area ok.... The other part I'm worried about is right off the turbo. I specifically bought the ESP traction bars to allow for more room for a bigger DP, but now that they're installed, the crossbar is basically in the worst spot it could be, directly below where the DP should run. If I trim the tabs for the "front mount" off the cross bar because I'll never use them, I think I can get it through. I also was thinking of using a 135 degree bend directly off the turbo, but I can't be sure that will work without actually doing it, and I don't want to blow 80 bucks on the bend just yet. I know a "pipe-cut" DP would snake its way in there just fine, but I'm not about to drop a G on an exhaust.... unless it really comes to it. Worst case, I already have everything I need for a 3", I'll just run that.

If anyone can find pictures of a 4" on a 4th gen, I'd love to see them, I can't find anything as of now......

4" is pure overkill. 3" IMO is the biggest you can go without asking for trouble. If you're that worried about back pressure, get a 3" exhaust from the turbo-back and get an electronic exhaust cut-out and install it before the cat on the DP.

Seriously.. I can barely drive my car with my 3" DP as it is.. 4" from the oilpan back is just stupid.

Well, its only overkill if you're running a really small turbo.... ask any of the SFWD drive guys they all run 4" on a "street car". Hell, some of the large turbos come with a FIVE INCH v-band now! The only trouble I see in running a 4" is the clearance issues, and the cost cuz I'm a cheap SOB. I don't run my car 1/2" off the ground, but also don't like thinking about my exhaust hanging down lower than any part of my car, if I were to do this, I'd make up some sort of skid plate to at least take some of the impact if I hit sometime. Like I said, I haven't made up my mind, I just got to thinking about it and wanted to see if anyone had done it yet....

busa hunter, I can't tell from that picture, but are you using some kind of home-made traction bar? If so, it looks like your cross bar is much farther forward than mine, and also that your turbo may hang a bit farther away from the block than mine (i'll post a pic tonight so you see what I mean) I am glad to see how it looks though! Nice job!

If my cross bar wasn't it the location that its in, I would be just fine, its just going to be tricky to get around.... my plan was to tack it together myself and have it finish welded by a professional. But getting the DP through that area might be more than I can chew....
