Motor Thoughts for Ej1
okay, so, im torn b/t so many different options...
either a d15b7 with a z6 head
build a d16z6 which is in the car(94 civic ex)
Ls Swap no idea what trans...
which would be most reliable, have good torque and power, and be pretty cost efficient.
list what combo you think would be more fun to drive.

LS by far!
I'm not hating on the D. I know a lot of people like them. However, LS motor is:
-LS swap for around $1500
-Good torque for street
-More displacement and DOHC which gives you more potential
-Loves boost if you want even more power
It's not even a choice......

cost efficient boosting the d, will run u about 2500 to make more power than a b swap, depending on the turbo u want, reliability is in the tune, u'll make torque and power with boost
i was feeling an LS swap, with a intake, header, and a nicer exhaust with a good muffler.
possibly even get an LS, and rebuilding it, ARP rod and head studs, nice bearings, maybe try and bump the comp. up a little bit, just toughin' it up, and make it a little meaner.
any other suggestions, or even LS build ideas?

so boosted LS setup ftw?
what is a general parts list?
LS motor, not sure which trans would be good for nice 1 2 3 shifts, and then a little taller 4th and 5th...if that makes any sense
B axles? halveshaft? idk
Shift Linkage?
ECU
what wiring would need to be done?
i need to know that stuff pretty much...

IMO i would go with an Ls.For the ls the best tranny is either the Ls tranny but its the longest B series tranny out there. I hear the GSR tranny is actually a good combo with it also...
Man, please do yourself a favor and search this site for 30 mins. Youre planning on spending a few thousand so just make sure you know what to expect and what your power needs are. Its a big investment, this forum gets questions like these EVERYDAY MULTIPLE TIMES. Trust me, its been covered, next time, search before you make a thread, you will get answers right there instead of waiting for replys.
Now thats out of the way. I think if your motor is running well and maintained then you should boost it. Lots of power to be made with a turbo you dont even have to take it apart if youre staying under 220hp or so.If youre going to swap suggest an B18A(LS) or B18B(LS) over the GSR, 1 its much cheaper, 2 its a 1.8 and very torquey, 3 if you blow it theres plenty of blocks/heads available for cheappppppp, 4 very good for boost, boost heads love em because of the low compression and good displacement. The only thing it doesnt have is VTEC and it comes with a long transmission. Best bang for your buck though right next to a D16 turbo
Turbo it, get a short B16 tranny and call it a day. GSRs are good but expensive compared.

Save some money for a gsr swap and call it a day. If LS I like the b16 tranny then in the future if you want more power you can add any b series vtec head. But do it right the first time. when going LS/V make it reliable...your search button is your best friend, use it.

i bought a d15b "$400" peiced together a turbo kit and got tuned on 10psi "$700", and kicked the **** out of every n/a and quite a few boosted b-series i ran into... dont just pick an choose, do ur homework, shop around, and do it in time if ur not in any big rush... i found 440cc injectors on ebay for 30 bucks, golden eagle vacuum manifold for 20 bucks, cast iron manifold with tial wastegate for 100 bucks, garrett t3t4 for 200, ect... just shop around dude, and stick with the D... unless u feel like completely swapping everything, than thats all up to u... Boosted D is prolly 9000 times more fun than n/a B IMO tho... "and yes i've owned PLENTYYYY enough B's and D's to base that opinion which im sure ill have some supporters of"...
There you go, someone that knows what theyre talking about. Sticking with the D series and spanking everyone else is pretty fun. Though I wont say Ds are more fun than Bs, for the same price it will be faster than a B.
welll said turbo sohcs are fun since everybody talks so much **** bout sohcs and swear they slow no matter whats done to them
turbo d > N/A B?
im not sure, ive been pretty confident in getting all the parts i need for the swap for 1000 or less, plus freshening the motor up.
i might just get a jy d16z6, and build it up just a little instead. probably easier and cheaper.
idk, i havent even gotten the car yet...im just trying to figure out ideas on what you can do to them, im 100% new to hondas...
also, stfu with the damn search button crap, grow up, what does it hurt by my making a thread, and keeping it going?
every forum or site i go to has dicks that say **** like that, just shut up, dont look at my thread if you dont want, i dont care, i could figure it out on my own, its just alot easier to post a new thread, instead of searching and searching and searching and searching...and then searching some more...
thanks guys who have some input!

This is the biggest honda site online, how many times do you think people have asked whats better D or B? We're not just telling you to search and leaving, were actually answering the question. This has been covered many times and so if you look at other threads, you can see even more responses and people who have more experience with both motors.
I have a D16Z6 and its awesome, its got intake, exhaust and a header and I'm pretty happy with the power. 200 hp is enough for most people. I would take a turbo D instead of an N/A B16A or B18B but thats just me. For 400ish you can get yourself a D16Z6 longblock and for about a 1000 get it turbocharged and tuned. Thats $1,500 versus a B18B swap for the same price but stock. Its important to get good deals to make the most out of it. Craigslist has good cheap stuff, check it out. You just want to make sure to get it tuned if you go turbo and if you are make sure your motor is in good condition so that its reliable. Check out this thread
