the Y8 produces 2 more hp than the z6, the Y8's intake manifold and head are said to flow much better than a Z6, so a lot of low buck upgrades i've seen is slapping a Y8 intake mani on a Z6.

And I thought I also heard if you put a Y8 head on your Z6 block than you get a gain in compression due to it's better combustion chamber design. I heard was like a half a point increase.

Yu might be talking about the y8 head gasket. I've heard they are one of the thinnest OEM head gaskets and that will raise up your compression ratio. I don't know by how much though.

I was planning on putting a d16z6 head on my d15b7 engine, should I put a y8 on instead? How much harder is it to put the y8 on? I'd assume it would be harder considering it's OBD 2 and my car is OBD 1. Also, even if I end up putting a z6 head on, would a y8 headgasket be better then a z6 headgasket, or would it not fit?

Either head will help a lot.

If you want port and polish before install

Y8 head has a far better quench area than the Z6 with it's rounded combustion roof vs. the Z6's oval shape. The Y8 also uses a larger plenum in it's intake manifold though the runner are the same diameter and a but longer on the Y8. The oiling system for the Y8 was said to be "revised" by Honda, though I can't say about that for sure, though I do hear of alot more spun bearings on Z6's than I hear on Y8's. The Y8 also features an ever so slightly more aggresive cam, but the Z6 is said to have the better duration.

Would there be any complications with the y8 being OBD II and my d15b7 being OBD I, or would it be the same as if I was doing a Z6 swap.

dont even worry about obd 2. heres the important things you need adj. cam gear. then you can use your d15b7 dist., and just get a z6 or y8 intake manifold, and plug and play. the upper left head bolt doesn't seem to go down all the way. i used a z6 gasket. and get y8 sparkplug wires.

The one thing that still confuses me is re-hooking up the distributer and making sure everything is aligned right. Is there anyplace that has good instructions on how to align everything, either with a y8 distributer or my d15b7 one and an adj cam gear?
