CRX Climate Controls stuck in "Upper Vent"...how do I fix?
No matter what button I press, I can't get air to blow anywhere but through my top vents. It will not blow out the top (defrost) or on the feet. My climate controls are busted up somewher, but does this sound like a mechanical or electrical problem?

so does the button pop out if you push another one? if so then it sounds like an electrical problem...if it doesn't....it's mechanical...
Yeah, I can "select" any setting I want...just nothing happens for any of them. I can have it in the defrost position, and it' still blowing through the vents.

Any ideas on what would have to be done to fix it? I'll see if I can get it out tomorrow and see if maybe something isn't plugged in right or what. The thing is though, that all the lights change w/ the pressed button... Like, if I press the defrost button, the light above it will come on...so I would think if that's working that everything is hooked up right...but I'll make sure.

did this happen after your swap?....if it did like mine....the speedo cable is hitting the arm that switches the vent positions....try takin the speedo cable off the cluster and see if it works then

i have 89 hf that got a 89 si motor n trans n ecu swap... but anywho im having the same problem. the lights change with different buttons i choice but the air doesnt change. it seems to be stuck open on all vents. its comes out the dash vent and the front window defrost and even the floor. but i cant change which one it comes out. plus blower doesnt seem to be to strong, have read that they dont seem to be to strong anyway tho... any ideas will help. thanks
The blower is strong if you get a new one, a 20 year old blower will obviously not work very well.
If you look up near the gas pedal (up into the dash) you should be able to see the vent selector. see if maybe it just broke a tab or something, or if something is obstructing it.
behind the center console/radio, you'll see the floor vent. follow that tube, and on the drivers side you'll see the little electric selector. it's worth a shot.

If it is a crx there is a grey box (ac brain box) right near the accelerator pedal.
This controls the air conditioning and the controls for the switches. As in push button, it moves from one location to another.
If you are pushing buttons and there is no change then it is one of two things.
1. the lever behind the ac brain box is messed up and come loose.
2. the ac brain box is messed up.

I had this problem in my hatch, the wire that guides the lever behind the unit on mine was off the unit. I was cheap, got some $10 epoxy from Lowes and epoxied the hell out of the wire to keep it in place, a little plastic piece had broken off, and outside of me buying a new unit it was busted. The whole thing took me $10 and 15 min to fix, just take the unit out and see if the wire is not being held in place. Good luck, I can send you pics late tomorrow night if you wanna see what I'm talking about.
