Car didn’t want to start, Gas light on, had 3.5 gallons left in the tank
97 accord ex, 4 dr, 4 cyl, 123k, I think it has a 17.9 gallon gas tank
While I was driving the gas light came on. I turned off the car to get something. When I tried to turn the car back on it didn’t want to start. It had power and cracked. I pumped the gas pedal 9 times and it started. I pumped 14.5 gallons gas afterward. Works fine now.
Had my fuel filter changed 2 years ago.
If there was 3.5 gallons in the gas tank when it was off, why did it not want to start?
What problems could I have?
Is it weather related?
Is it that the car is just too old?
Thank you in advance

-1 unusable (sump)
Look for any Parking Lot Rash on the bottom of the tank. There have been incidents where a past impact bent the fuel pickup up out of the sump area; effectively lowering the available capacity. Parking on an incline can make it worst by uncovering the pickup during low fuel levels.
