Default VSS problem

Sup guys,
Friend has an accord with an h22 and the speedometer doesn't go. The thing is that it works about 15% of the time perfectly and then just stops working. It's random! He want's his VTAK back and we can't figure out the problem.

What you guys think?

And also there are 2 vacuum nipples coming out of the sensor and there are no hoses on em, what are those for?

As it has been stated 2000000000000 and 1 times, if there is no CEL associated to the problem it is most likely the cluster itself and not the VSS.

If you're not getting any of the normal check engine lamp activity, I'd start rechecking all that H22 wiring crap that normally goes on. Either you've got a frayed wire / loose connection issue, a VSS ready to soil itself or a speedometer that's thinking twice about continuing.
... the two vacuum hose issue: are you sure it's the speed sensor and not the housing it's attached to?
What year/application was this transmission?

Sorry guys, I had to post real quick so didn't put enough info.

CEL is on when the speedo doesn't work and VTEC doesn't work which means ECU isn't getting signal. Speedometer works perfectly about 15% of the time and when it does, it's accurate to the mark. What I'm trying to figure out is why that is happening and why it doesn't work all the time.

I found out why there is no 2 hoses BTW, it's cause that's for P/S and the car doesn't have it.

Any help will be appreciated guys, I checked connector and it was good and in there

If the CEL is on, it's most likely a dying VSS

I stand by what I suggested earlier.
VSS or connector

Aight thanks guys. Both of you were correct. First of all there was no connector, just some ghetto-rigged spliced wiring so that could of been the problem but I just went and bought a VSS off eBay for like 25 bucks. I have an extra engine harness laying around from the h23 so I found the connector and wired everything up and now speedo and VTAK works!

Thanks for the "that fixed it" post.
It's nice to know when the effort pays off
